Policy for Cemetery Inquiries and Lookups
This is a service to distant genealogists. These inquiries are answered by volunteers. Local researchers are encouraged to visit the Kingston Branch OGS library. Due to the shortage of volunteers and the volume of inquiries, responses may take 4 - 6 weeks.
Kingston Branch actively supports the Ontario Genealogical Society's cemetery indexing project. A searchable index is available at the Ontario Cemetery Ancestor Search site.
Many of Kingston Branch's transcriptions are also indexed in the Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid (OCFA). OCFA provides an index of monumental inscriptions and some other cemetery information from regional cemeteries that have been transcribed and published by various branches of OGS.
Cemetery Lookup Fees: Kingston Branch OGS charges $5.00 for each individual burial transcription. If you find a name of interest identified in a Kingston Branch cemetery transcription in one of the above indexes, we will provide a photocopy of the appropriate page from the relevant cemetery publication.
Payment: These fees include postage and must be received in advance of initiation of the research. Your research will be initiated as soon as possible upon receipt of the fee by regular post.
- If ordering from a Canadian address: your cheque drawn on a Canadian bank, or postal money order, must be in Canadian funds and must be payable to Kingston Branch OGS.
- If ordering from outside of Canada: you must pay in Canadian funds by means of an international bank draft drawn on a Canadian bank [easily purchased at most local banks], or by an international postal money order.
If you are requesting a large number of names from the same cemetery publication, you may find it more cost-effective to purchase the entire publication.
Requests, including payment, must be submitted to our postal address:
