Index of Jews Resident in Western Canada According to the 1870 to 1901 Censuses of Canada
$23.00
Glen Eker
This book provides genealogical information on Jews by religion, by ethnic origin, by descent and on non-Jewish family members. As well as the usual places of origin, such as Russia and Poland, these people came from everywhere from the Caribbean to India and Palestine. Their occupations range from the common to the unusual; there are doctors, rabbis, rag pickers and peddlers but there are also actors, musicians, miners, inmates of 'houses of ill repute', cattle dealers and farmers.
Here you will find genealogical information drawn from the census schedules on each individual as well as section, subdivision and page references for locating a particular individual within the census microfilm reels now in Library and Archives Canada.
The information contained in this book provides the researcher with all the genealogical and social information necessary to research a particular individual or to research the social characteristics of the Jewish community of the Canadian West.
