Brave Aviator Honored in Memorial Service
A memorial service in honor of the late Flight Lieut. George
Rivers FLEMING/FLEMMING was held at Broadway Methodist Tabernacle last
evening. The Reverend W.R.
YOUNG officiated, assisted by Mr. M.A.
SORSOLEIL, who paid high tribute to the young life which had
been sacrificed in the cause of humanity. Lieut.
FLEMING/FLEMMING, he
said, had a comprehensive grasp of the needs of men and played.
an important part in the work of the church. His life was full,
deep and influential. Through his manly Christian religion, he
was enabled to wield a great influence over all those he was
associated with. He filled his position as head of the Juvenile
League, Quarterly Board, and Associate Superintendent of the
Sunday School with power and dignity, which made his life, effective,
and a steady power in the advance of the cause.
Lieut. FLEMING/FLEMMING was born in London, Ontario, in the year 1886,
and came of a Methodist family of long standing. He came to Toronto
in the year 1895 and for some years was a member of the Central
Methodist Church. He later became associated with the Broadway
Tabernacle.
Reverend
Dr.
YOUNG, in closing the service, said that
Lieut. FLEMING/FLEMMING will live in the memory of the congregation until
the end.

Dead Airman Honored
Broadway
Tabernacle
Pays Tribute to Flight Lieut. G.R.
FLEMING/FLEMMING's
Memory
That the value of life is not in relationship to its span but
in the use made of it, was brought home forcibly to the congregation
of Broadway Methodist Tabernacle, last evening at the service
held in memory of Flight Lieut. George Rivers
FLEMING/FLEMMING.
Lieut.
FLEMING/FLEMMING's life, though comparatively short, influenced a wide
circle for good, and the manly Christian life proved an inspiration
to all who met him.
The service was conducted by Reverend W.R.
YOUNG, D.D., pastor of
the church, assisted by Mr. M.A.
SORSOLEIL. In his address, Mr.
SORSOLEIL paid a splendid tribute to the noble young life that
had been sacrificed in the cause of humanity. He briefly outlined
the life of Mr.
FLEMING/FLEMMING, who was born in London in 1886 and came
with his father to this city in 1895. Young
FLEMING/FLEMMING associated
himself with Broadway Tabernacle at once and during 22 years
was actively associated with every department of the churche's
work. He filled nearly every office in the church except that
of trustee, a position to which he would have been elected on
his return. Describing his character, Mr.
SORSOLEIL said Lieut.
FLEMING/FLEMMING had a comprehensive grasp of the needs of men. He was
a leader of men. His was a manly religion, deep, full and influential.
He hesitated not to sacrifice himself for the welfare of others
and this spirit led him at least to sacrifice himself for the
State.
Dr. YOUNG spoke of the power of heredity, and pointed out the
splendid natural capital which was given to Lieut.
FLEMING/FLEMMING from
his ancestry.
