Call it expectant mother's intuition, but Jennifer
BOOKMAN knew
on October 7, a month before her due date, that she had to start
buying some baby stuff right away.
The 27-year-old advertising executive and her 32-year-old husband
Adam, vice-president of an Iinformation Technology consulting
company, had "practically nothing" for their baby.
"I knew for some reason that day I had to buy some stuff," she
says, explaining how she went out after work that day and bought
three sleepers, some washcloths, a baby monitor, a bathtub and
a diaper bag.
No crib, though, and no baby seat or stroller. In fact, the baby's
bedroom in their Avenue Road and Eglinton home was still acting
as her husband's home office.
Then, as the couple sat down to watch the October 8 U.S. presidential
debate, Ms.
BOOKMAN went into labour. Ryan Max
BOOKMAN was born
the next morning, four weeks early, weighing six pounds, three
ounces.

Santos was born in Mississauga, weighing
eight pounds, five ounces, on July 5 -- nearly nine months to
the day of their October honeymoon in Portugal.
"I tell people, 'yes, it was really rainy on our honeymoon,'
" she says, a wry smile on her face. "We didn't go out much."
Elijah is the first child of Brampton residents Carmen, a 29-year-old
dental hygienist, and Rick
SANTOS, a 31-year-old shipping-company
agent.
After dating for more than 11 years, the high-school sweethearts
decided to tie the knot last fall. Little did they know that
their subsequent vacation to Portugal -- where the bulk of Rick's
family live -- would be such a life-altering event.
"We had talked about it on our honeymoon and decided that we
would try to have kids some time in the next year, maybe on a
trip to Mexico, where I used to live," Carmen says.
"Not long after we got home, we knew something was up."
That's not the only thing that happened quickly.
On July 5, Carmen's water broke just after midnight and baby
Elijah was born about 2½ hours later.
