CURRY came into the world on January 5, the same day
that her great-great-grandfather, Alan
HARRIS, turned 104. The
newborn's mother, Lara
McGRAW, says the birth was a special birthday
present for him.
For 44 years, Mr.
HARRIS taught at Upper Canada College and students
still come from all over the world to visit him at his farm near
Caledon. "My husband's great-grandfather is inspirational in
so many ways, he's so curious and fascinating," says Ms.
McGRAW,
a prop stylist. "If Grace could have an ounce of that, she'd
be a lucky girl."
Born 7 pounds, 6 ounces, she was welcomed into the family's home
at Yonge and Summerhill by brother Liam, 22 months, and father
Michael CURRY, managing partner at Investeco Capital, an environmental-investment
company.
"We named her Grace after my childhood nickname," says Ms.
McGRAW,
who is blind in one eye and as a child "was a little bit klutzy."
Her mother used to call her Graceful, later shortened to Grace.
"My husband just loved the name," she says.

14. Three hours later, his mother, Melanie
SEBASTIANELLI, took
the eight-pound baby home.
They were back in their Danforth and Woodbine neighbourhood so
soon because the delivery was quick, easy and drug-free, she
says.
But she still heard criticisms from colleagues at the hospital
where she works because she chose not to have a doctor deliver
her son.
"Some of the nurses in the neonatology unit told me they couldn't
believe I was going with a midwife," says Mrs.
SEBASTIANELLI,
a pharmacy technician. Her husband, Paul, a freelance sound technician,
was working on a television show when she went into labour, but
she was in good hands, having also used a midwife to deliver
her first child, Clara, 2.
"A midwife allows you to form a natural and close bond with someone
who is bringing your child into the world," she says.
