Edith Irene BEST
In loving memory of Edith Irene BEST, May 13 1915-January 25 2001.
Edith BEST, a resident of Manitoulin Lodge, and formerly of Gordon Township, died at the Lodge on Thursday, January 25, 2001 at the age of 85 years. She was born in Gordon Township, daughter of the late Edward PARKER and Mary Ann {NOLAND} BROCKELBANK. Edith lived in Gordon all her life, moving to the Lodge in January of 1989. She was a homemaker, and had fulfilled a life-long dream, graduating as a Health Care Aid. She was a member of Lyons Memorial United Church, the Gordon Women's Institute, a past member of the Gordon-Gore Bay Horticultural Society, and the United Church Women. Edith had many hobbies, such as quilting, knitting and crocheting. Her greatest pleasure was indoor and outdoor gardening, and took great pride in her African Violets, Gladiolas and Dahlias.
Dearly loved mother of Marianne BEST of Gore Bay and the late Edward BEST (November 23, 2000). Loving grandmother of Darren and his wife HeatherLee, Brent and Heather and her husband Dave. Loving mother-in-law of Pat BEST, and dear sister-in-law of Betty BROCKELBANK of Sault Ste. Marie and Lyman GIBBS of Gore Bay. Predeceased by sisters Myrtle LANGMAN and Clara DUNCANSON and brothers Ted and Orval BROCKELBANK.
Funeral service was conducted in the Wm. G. Turner Chapel of the Culgin Funeral Home on Saturday, January 27 with Mrs. Geraldine Bould officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Culgin Funeral Home, Gore Bay.

Cherished wife of 61 years to Stanley STEVENS of Richards Landing, Ontario. Mother of Kenneth STEVENS (Wilma) of Richards Landing, Shelba MULLINS (Lynn) of Sault Ste. Marie, Sandra STEVENS of Huntsville and Penny Kucyk (Zeno) of Sault Ste. Marie. Beloved grandmother of Garry STEVENS (Edith), Kelly STEVENS, Steve MULLINS (Lise), Joseph
MULLINS (Michelle), Sari MacNEILL (Allan), Don APPLEYARD, Terry-Jo APPLEYARD, Debbie APPLEYARD and Jeannie STREETS (Trevor). Funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 2, 2001 in the Richards Landing Legion Hall at 2 p.m. with Reverend Catherine BROMELL officiating. Interment Richards Landing Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Barton and Kiteley Funeral Home, Sault Ste. Marie.

Catherine Mary Elizabeth BROWN
In loving memory of Catherine Mary Elizabeth BROWN, August 7 1915-May 1 2001.
Catherine BROWN, a resident of the Manitoulin Lodge, died at the St. Joseph's Health Centre, Sudbury, on Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at the age of 85 years. She was born at Ice Lake, daughter of the late Alfred and Catherine {KERR} BRANDOW. Catherine had been a school bus driver for many years. She was a member of the Ice Lake Church of Christ and the Ice Lake Women's Institute and enjoyed knitting. Catherine was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be sadly missed, but many memories will be shared with much love.
Catherine as predeceased by her first husband Alexander McDOUGALL in 1960. She later married Clarence BROWN who predeceased in 1998. Dearly loved mother of Eileen and husband Bill SLOAN of Gore Bay, Alfred McDOUGALL and his wife Dorothy of Naughton, Sandy McDOUGALL and his wife Elsie and Dennis McDOUGALL and his wife Dale all of Ice Lake, and Steve McDOUGALL and his wife Laurie of Espanola. Proud grandmother of Sherry, Pam, Tim, David, Chrisanne, Julia, Joanne, Jill, Charlie, Chad, Derick and Amanda and great grandchildren Matthew, Tyler, Christine, Amanda, Michael, Cory, Spencer, Logan, David, Miranda, Zachary, Morgan and Liam. Predeceased by a sister Laura.
The funeral service was conducted in the Wm. G. Turner Chapel with Pastor Les CRAMP officiating on Saturday, May 5, 2001. Interment in Gordon Cemetery. If so desired, donations to the Strawberry Point Christian Camp or the Manitoulin Lodge Volunteers would be appreciated.

Bertwin Wilfred ANSTICE
June 30, 1926-October 8, 2001
Bert ANSTICE, a resident of Manitowaning, passed away at the Manitoulin Health Centre, Little Current, on Monday, October 8, 2001 at the age of 75 years.
He was born in Tehkummah Township son of Dorothy {SALTER} ANSTICE of Tehkummah and the late Victor ANSTICE. Bert enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing, and worked with farm machinery and as well as helping others. He worked as a policeman for INCO and did a lot of carpentry and stone masonry work in his later
years. Bert was a life member of Algonquin Lodge #536, Copper Cliff, a Charter member of the SouthEast Lions Club of Manitowaning. He was also a member of Knox United Church. His greatest love was his family and the grandchildren. Beloved husband of Marie BROWN of Manitowaning. Loving and loved father of Carol MAYER (husband Lance) of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Barbara DRYSDALE (husband Harvey) of Manitowaning, Karen SMITH (husband Joe) of Bath, ON, and brother-in-law Carl BROWN (wife Roberta.) Proud grandfather of 8 grandchildren Victoria DUGDALE (husband Steven,) Jane WUYCHUK (husband Ivan,) Derek, Ron and Jerit Drysdale and Matthew, Heidi and Elysha SMITH, 3 great grandchildren, Jake, Haley and Hayden. Dear brother of Ken ANSTICE (wife Evelyn,) Glenora HARRISON (husband Dave,) Ron ANSTICE (wife Justeen) and Jeannette STICKLES (husband Doug.) Also survived by many nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held from the Manitowaning Chapel on Friday, October 12 with Pastor Wally WOOD officiating. Interment in Hilly Grove Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Manitowaning Chapel.
