McQUADE, Robertha (Bobbie) -- Suddenly at Brookfield Place, Barrie on Friday, November 15th, 2002. Loving sister of Florence WRIGHT of Barrie, Eunice McLEOD and her husband Bill of Barrie, and Beatrice McQUADE of Toronto. Much loved ''Auntie Bobbie'' to many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Mildred McQUADE, Ethel SCOTT and Ella GAUTHIER and brothers Robert and Wallace McQUADE. Robertha graduated as a registered nurse from Hamilton General Hospital in 1945. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1949, and participated in the evacuation of the sick and wounded from Japan during the Korean War. She retired from the armed forces in 1973. After retiring, Robertha studied the art of porcelain painting at Oakland University and taught for 20 years. Friends may call at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 201 Minet's Point Rd., at Yonge Street, Barrie on Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. A service celebrating her life will take place in the chapel at 3 p.m.

McDONALD, Andrew Charles (Charlie) -- Passed away peacefully with his family by his side, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer on Sunday November 17, 2002, in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Betty for over 52 years. Loving father of Elizabeth McQUADE and her husband Dan, Carole MURZIN and her husband Richard, Linda McDONALD, and her husband Dale TAILOR/TAYLOR and Andrew and his wife Maria. Cherished grandpa of Katie, Lindsey, Megan, Diane, Bo, Gaelan, Madeline, Braden and Claire. Special thanks to Dr. A. PETRASEK and the Palliative Care Team. Friends may call at the Turner and Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. West, Etobicoke (between Islington and Kipling Aves.) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday. Funeral service at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 3819 Bloor St. West, Etobicoke, on Thursday November 21, 2002, at 2 p.m. Cremation to follow. In loving memory of Effie BAUMAN/BOWMAN, March 2, 1914-March 10, 2002
Effie BAUMAN/BOWMAN, a resident of Gore Bay, died at the Manitoulin Health Centre, Little Current, on Sunday March 10, 2002 at the age of 88 years. She was the fifth child of the late Ronald and Agnes {ALLEN} McQUARRIE. Effie attended both public school and high school in Gore Bay and Teacher Training at North Bay Normal School in 1931 and 32. She taught in Pleasant Valley (formerly Pig Tantrum), Gore Bay, Toronto and Newmarket. On July 8, 1936 she married Marven BAUMAN/BOWMAN, and after 44 years away, retired to Gore Bay. Effie was a vital, active presence in her communities. She was an adored primary school teacher, a superb cook, who entertained weekly right up until the time she entered the hospital, a wife and mother and kind friend to all. She was a founding member of the Senior Citizen Club, serving as secretary for many years, until her failed vision forced her resignation. She served on the Library Board and was instrumental in starting the CNIB Help Group. Everyone who met her, recognized her as a special person, one who saw only the best in others. She possessed a marvelous sense of humour and great inner strength. Effie was the oldest member of All Saints Anglican Church. She was christened and married in the church and her wish was to be buried from there as well.
Dearly loved wife of almost 66 years of Marven. Loving mother of Mary Jean and Lachlan MUIR, of Gore Bay, Carolyn and Bryan OSTROWSKI of Midland and Catherine and Raouf BALBAA of Mississauga. Proud grandmother of Mark Toole and his wife Denise, Jordan Toole and his wife Debbie, Leisha Ostrowski and her fiance Chris and Adam BALBAA, and great grandchildren Mitchell, Katie, Carlie and Sydney. Predeceased by sister Jean COOK and brothers Jack, Jim, Donald and Mac McQUARRIE. Fondly remembered by a large extended family of nieces and nephews.
Friends called the Culgin Funeral Home Monday March 11, 2002. The funeral service was held at All Saints Anglican Church on Tuesday March 12, 2002 with Reverend Lind WHITE/WHYTE officiating, assisted by Rev. Rhonda HIRST. Spring Interment in Hagey Cemetery at Cambridge.

C. L. Marven BAUMAN/BOWMAN
In loving memory of C. L. Marven BAUMAN/BOWMAN April 3, 1913 to November 12, 2002.
Marven BAUMAN/BOWMAN, only son of the late Honourable Beniah and Mary (BARR) BAUMAN/BOWMAN. Born at Long Bay, Manitoulin Island, Ont. April 3, 1913, in the house in which his mother was also born. He spent his childhood between Toronto, Manitoulin and Ottawa, attended school in Toronto, graduated from Oakwood Collegiate in 1931. He returned to the Island and farmed on the family homestead for 3 years, then took on the job of Registrar of Electors for East Algoma in 1934-1935. On July 8, 1936 he married Effie McQUARRIE and they started married life in Toronto. Marven was employed at DeHaviland Aircraft in the Tool Making and Design field. He then moved on as Technical Manager with A. C. WICKMAN Canada Ltd. By the end of WW2, he was Sales Manager and Director of Modern Tool Works, which involved frequent travel across the continent and throughout Europe. His next position was Vice President of Canadian Machine Tool Builders Association. In 1956, he purchased a business in Newmarket, Ont. Marven was an inventor, a superb cabinet maker producing furniture, boats (even a cabin cruiser), a highly skilled tool and die maker, a wordsmith, writing prolifically-pertaining to his family history, letters to Friends which were highly cherished and to a wide assortment of causes, wherever he deemed injustice had been done. He loved flying, obtaining his pilot's license at age 50, and owned a succession of small aircraft. Marven and Effie flew to various destinations: Florida, Bahamas and summer weekends to the cottage on Tobacco Lake. He was a life-long boating enthusiast, a voracious reader, a dog lover, a crossword puzzle addict, a pool player in later years, driving daily to the Seniors Centre in Town. Marven was a devoted husband and caring father. He was a private person, incredibly honest and his word was his bond.
Through the years, he was President of The Rosicrucion Order in Toronto (AMORC,) Lieutenant of the Keswick Power Squadron, President of the Newmarket Lion's Club (1963-1964,) a CESO Worker in the Philippines, in his retirement (setting up design courses), and Chair of the Western Manitoulin Historical Society, taking a great interest in the Gore Bay Museum.
Marven was predeceased by his wife Effie (McQUARRIE) BAUMAN/BOWMAN, March 10, 2002. Loved father of Mary Jean, husband Lachlan MUIR of Gore Bay Carolyn, husband Bryan OSTROWSKI of Midland and Catherine, husband Raouf BALBAA of Mississauga. Proud grandfather of Mark TOOLE, wife Denise, Jordan TOOLE, wife Debbie Dr. Leisha OSTROWSKI and husband Chris GITTENS and Adam BALBAA and great grandchildren Mitchell, Katie, Carlie and Sydney. Friends called the Culgin Funeral Home on Thursday, November 14, 2002. The funeral service was conducted in the Wm. G. Turner Chapel with Reverend Beth Topps officiating. VANCE, Bruce Thomas George -- At home in Toronto on Wednesday, November 20, 2002. Bruce leaves his devoted wife Patricia Humphreys VANCE and dear sons Kevin and Harry. Retired English consultant with the former Toronto Board of Education, textbook editor and book lover. Bruce wishes no formal observance of his passing, but a memorial plaque will be placed on a bench at his beloved English Bay in Vancouver.
