William James " Alvin" GLASBY
In loving memory of William James "Alvin" GLASBY who passed away peacefully at Mindemoya Hospital on Friday, April 25, 2003 at the age of 86 years.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Elaine (née SLOAN.) Loved by his children Dorothy of Little Current, Edward and his wife Diane of Tehkummah, Lorraine and her husband Roger Pyette of Manitowaning and Janet (predeceased.) Dear grandfather of Tracy and Vickie PYETTE, Dianne and her husband Neil DEBASSIGE and Carolyn GLASBY. Fondly remembered by sisters and brothers Norma JOHNS (husband Harold predeceased) of Sault Ste. Marie, Marion ELLIOT/ELLIOTT (husband Howard predeceased) of Mindemoya, Lyle (wife Rosie predeceased) of Spring Bay, Eldin of Providence Bay, Harold and his wife Shirley of Sudbury. Will be missed by in-laws: Helen HANN of Mulberry, Indiana Echo and Ray McFAUL of Havelock, Phyllis and Jim MUNRO of Kagawong, Stan and Ada SLOAN of North Bay, John and Evelyn SLOAN of Kincardine, Murray and Sheila SLOAN of Rossland, BC and Jacinthe SLOAN of Montreal. Uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held at Mindemoya United Church from 7-9 pm on Sunday, April 27, 2003. Funeral Service was held on Monday, April 28, 2003 at Mindemoya United Church. Burial in Mindemoya Cemetery. Arrangements in care of Island Funeral Home, Little Current.

Died peacefully at home in Toronto, on Tuesday, May 27, 2003, having recently turned 81. Predeceased by her beloved husband Francis Colin SHIRRIFF. Dear mother of Susan, Cathie Shirriff FORSTMANN, Janet, Joan VAUGHAN (the late Steven VAUGHAN) and Barbara. Loving grandmother of Diana CABLE (Warren), Allyson WOODROOFFE (Roger PEPLER) and Kelly FORSTMANN. Great-grandmother of Kate and Julia PEPLER and Hayley, Stephanie and Scott CABLE. Survived by brothers Manson and Frank, and sisters Neva PAUL and Mary PARKER. Barbara's love, encouragement, strength and ''joie de vivre'' will be cherished always. Our very special thanks to Dr. Wendy BROWN, Dr. Russell GOLDMAN and The Temmy Latner Palliative Care Team, Ella CASE and the Victorian Order of Nurses, and caregivers Ramona and Helen. The family will receive Friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A. W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday, May 29. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at Saint John's Anglican Church York Mills, 19 Don Ridge Drive at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 30. In loving memory of Vera Ilene SHERING who passed away peacefully at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 in her 78th year. Beloved wife of the late Joseph ARMSTRONG and the late Monty SHERING. Loving mother of Harold ARMSTRONG and his wife Lynne, Bill ARMSTRONG and his wife Linda, Ken ARMSTRONG and his wife Andrea, Carolyn SMURTHWAITE and her husband Norm, Marlene WHEELER and her husband Steve, Cathie Gould and her husband Jack. Dear grandma of 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Vera is survived by her sisters Myrtle WOOD, Marie TANN, Bernice SLOSS, and Edith BAYER and by her brother Lorne WOOD. GRACE E. GALBRAITH
November 27, 1903 - February 14, 2003
Grace GALBRAITH, a resident of the Manitoulin Lodge, Gore Bay, died at the Lodge on Friday, February 14, 2003 at the age of 99 years. She was born in London, England, daughter of the late Edward and Emily (RAYNER) GRIFFIN and at the age of 8 years came to Stratford, Ontario with her brother and sister, through the Thomas Bernardo Child Care Organization. She later came to the Island and at the age of 14, lived and worked for William and Mable McDONALD at Providence Bay, until her marriage to James GALBRAITH on February 20, 1920. She and James raised their family on the 12th line of Campbell Township. In 1952, she and James moved to Espanola, and Ransford took over the family farm. James predeceased her in 1970, but she continued to live in Espanola until 1991, when she came to live at Manitoulin Lodge.
Grace enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, tatting and canning. Loved and loving mother of Evelyn PATTISON (husband Warren LEGGE, predeceased 1972 and Jim PATTISON, 1986,) Lorma MIDDAUGH (husband Bill predeceased 2002,) Mildred McCORMICK (husband William predeceased 1998,) Leona SLOSS and husband Chester of Espanola and Ransford and his wife Lavina GALBRAITH of Mindemoya. Proud grandmother of 22 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 35 great great grandchildren. Predeceased by brother Edward (Ted) GRIFFIN and sister Lilly GRIFFIN.
Friends called the Culgin Funeral Home from 1-2 pm on Monday, February 17, 2003. The funeral service was conducted at 2 pm with Reverend Frank HANER officiating. Spring interment in Mindemoya Cemetery. Culgin Funeral Home 282-2270.

M. Irene SLOSS
In loving memory of M. Irene Sloss, December 1, 1931 to March 14, 2003.
Irene SLOSS, a resident of Evansville, died as the result of a car accident on Friday, March 14, 2003 at the age of 71 years. She was born in Little Current, daughter of the late Andrew and Sarah (MIDDAUGH) CAMPBELL, and had trained as a secretary, but her life was working alongside Marvin on their farm. She was a hard working lady, who enjoyed cooking and having company visit, but her true love in life was her family. Irene was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Many fond memories will be cherished by all who knew her.
Dearly loved wife of Marvin SLOSS of Evansville. Loving and loved mother of Vicki NOON (husband Ed predeceased,) Terry and husband Paul TUBB of British Columbia, proud grandmother of Kirstin (deceased) and Holly NOON. Kirstin Michelle NOON
In loving memory of Kirstin Michelle NOON, February 28, 1990 to March 14, 2003.
Kirstin NOON, a resident of Thornton and formerly Keswick, passed away as the result of a car accident on Friday, March 14, 2003 at the age of 13 years. She was the daughter of the late Ed NOON and Victoria (SLOSS) NOON. Kirstin was a very compassionate girl who loved to ride her bike, read fantasy books and loved dragons. She was a popular girl, having won the "Sunshine of the Year" award at school. A true source of pride and joy for her family and loved by all who knew her.
Precious daughter of Vicki and the late Ed NOON. Loved sister of Holly, at home, loving and loved granddaughter of Marvin and Irene (deceased) SLOSS and Mary Ann and Fred (predeceased) NOON. Also loved by many family and Friends.

Marguerite Esther LOCHEAD
In loving memory of Marguerite Esther LOCHEAD, July 11, 1919 - September 2, 2003.
Marguerite Esther LOCHEAD, a resident of Mindemoya, passed away at the Mindemoya Hospital, Mindemoya on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at the age of 84 years. She was born in Dalhousie Township daughter of the late Hugh and Marion (PARK) LOCHEAD. Marguerite was a teacher for 35 years, teaching in such places as Copper Cliff, Gatchell and Little Current before retiring to Mindemoya. She became very active in the Mindemoya United Church. She had many hobbies, including gardening, knitting and art especially painting with oils. Well-known and respected in her community, she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. A loving sister, aunt, great aunt and friend, many fond memories will be cherished. Marguerite is survived by her sister Marion "Betty" SLOSS of Spring Bay and brother Alex LOCHEAD and wife Mary of London. Predeceased by a brother Alex LOCHEAD and wife Mary of London. Predeceased by a brother Charles and brother-in-law Elwood SLOSS. Dear and loving aunt of Jim SLOSS, Susan GRENON, Mary Lynn McQUARRIE, Bill LOCHEAD, Charles LOCHEAD, Marian LOCHEAD, James LOCHEAD and Phyllis SPARKS. Also survived by 11 great nieces and nephews. The funeral service was conducted at the Church on Saturday September 6, 2003 at 11 am with Reverend Mary Jo ECKERT TRACY officiating. Interment in Mindemoya Cemetery.

Alberta Ann (MAGUIRE) SLOSS
In loving memory of Alberta Ann (Maguire) Sloss, November 1, 1947 to October 9, 2003.
Alberta SLOSS, a resident of Espanola died at the Espanola General Hospital on Thursday, October 9, 2003, at the age of 55 years.
She was born in Mindemoya, daughter of the late Oswald and the late Elsie (QUACKENBUSH) MAGUIRE. Alberta was a teacher at the Webbwood Public School, S. Geiger School in Massey and A. B. Ellis School in Espanola. She was a member of the Spring Bay Pentecostal Church and the Queensway Pentecostal Church in Espanola. She enjoyed gardening but her greatest joys were serving the Lord Jesus and the time she dedicated to her loving husband, children and grandchildren. Alberta will be greatly missed by all who knew her or worked with her over the years.
Dearly loved and loving wife of Ken SLOSS of Espanola. Loving mother of Bryan and wife Susin SLOSS of Thornhill, Brent and wife Chani SLOSS of Alma, and Brad and wife Amber SLOSS of Cambridge. Dear grandmother of Shekinah, Blake, Shayna and Hannah Joy. Dear sister of Rosalie JAGGARD (husband David) of Mindemoya and Elsie SILESKY of Englehart (husband Clifford predeceased). Also survived by five nieces and nephews.
