Alexander
Wallace "
Dusty"
MacNEVIN
The family of Alexander Wallace "Dusty"
MacNEVIN regretfully announce
his passing on August 11, 2003.
Born in Prince Edward Island 75 years ago, Dusty left school following grade 10
towards a career in light-weight boxing, in which he excelled for several years.
Ultimately, he shifted towards employment...a bit more promising...in
the field of telecommunications. He fell in love with the lovely
Mary SURETTE of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. They travelled together
raising their four children, Alan (Little Current, Ontario), Donald
(predeceased 1977), Sandra (Fresno, California) and David (Stoney
Plain, Alberta). Installation of Northern Telecom equipment brought
them to camps, cottages and villages and towns throughout Nova
Scotia, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec where they
settled and raised their family in Greenfield Park, Montreal.
Dusty's career progressed through the years, he quickly became an
encyclopaedia of telecommunication technology. In 1974 they ventured
off to Istanbul, Turkey for the first of several international
postings..his job title changing to "Project Manager" His spirit was
captured and he began his love with the Turkish people, culture and
magic. He guided and helped to create the communication system in
Turkey, gaining the respect, admiration and appreciation of many
Northern Telecom co-workers and the newly evolving Netush employees.
He was of the true pioneer spirit. A vast amount of
telecommunication history was celebrated with his knowledge and
expertise. After a brief return to work in Canada, Dusty followed
his heart, returned to Istanbul and founded a lovely retreat/home in
Datça. Cosmopolitan days were over. He happily, and with enormous
pride, created his own "Canadian Place" filling the yard with fig
trees, apricots and dates!
Dusty remarried a wonderful and beautiful lady, Tarlan, and they
completely enjoyed their new life together. Alexander Wallace never
once forgot or neglected his Canadian heritage, family and Friends,
encouraging their visits and sometimes paying their transport...to
come and stay in their Turkish homes. He also kept a close eye on
his children and grandchildren and lucked out having a wonderful step
daughter Emine and brand new grandchild! Two years ago, Dusty
survived a massive
CVA, fought long and hard to beat the deficits it
includes...and he won. Dusty was again, living at his home, enjoying
his marriage with Tarlan and experiencing the wonder of Istanbul when
he suddenly passed away.
You were an amazing, interesting and good man, Dusty. You will be missed.
