Married Russell MARTIN on April 27th, 1940 and moved to Molesworth, Ontario where she and Russell raised their family and operated a cheese factory for many years before moving to Dorchester, Ontario where she remained until her hospitalization on February 27th of this year. We are all very proud of our mother and her accomplishments, including her participation in the Terry Fox Run both in 2003 and last September 2004. Husband, best friend and soul mate of Carol (née DICKINSON.) Devoted▼ and loving father of Sue, Judy BERKIN and her husband Steve, and Kim all of London. Adored grandfather (Bampa) of Emma and Laura. Brother of Arlene SKRYNSKI of Burlington, Debbie CASTLE and her husband Gord of Aurora, and brother-in-law of Jean and Michael MEARS of London, Connie MASSICOTTE of Whitby and Anne EBSWORTH of England. Doug touched the lives of his nephews, nieces and relatives here and in England. He proudly became a surrogate grandpa to Amber and Lindsay. Doug enjoyed 30 years as a proud employee of 3M Canada and became known as "Mr. Post-It". Since retiring from 3M he served as a board member of The Kidney Foundation as well as being involved with the 3M retirees. The world has lost a shining star with Doug leaving us much too soon. Joe was born in Port Rowan and like many of his generation, grew up fast to join The Royal Canadian Air Force serving in World War 2. Joe's humour and concern for others will be sadly missed by those who knew him. He was the beloved husband of the late Lola BRIERLEY. Loving father of Debbie, Ron, Joe, Barb and Linda. Cherished by his grandchildren Micah, Lindsay, Ronnie and Lynann and great-grandfather of Tanner, Hailey, Katlyn and Samantha. He was a wonderful papa. Jack was an active member in the Lutheran Church all his life. While in Toronto he was a member of Saint John's Lutheran Church and latterly in Kitchener was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church. He was involved in the refugee resettlement ministry and a long-time member of the Heilite Camping Club. Marion passed away at the Riverview Health Centre on October 22, 2005 after a struggle with lung cancer. She was predeceased by her husbands Edgar VAISEY in 1961 and Lawrence GENSER in 1997 and her son Jacques VAISEY in 2003. She is survived by: her sister Dorinne THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON and her family; daughter Jill VAISEY and her husband Peter DICKOF and their children Carla and Raymond DICKOF daughter-in-law Tasha NATHANSON and her children Saskia, Ariana, and Bronwyn VAISEY; step-daughter Irene CORNE, her husband Bob and their children Lesley and Jeff WOLMAN, Janet and Michael KATZ, Maureen and Avi SLAMA, and Eric and Aimee CORNE, and their children (Marion's great-grandchildren) Yale and Serena WOLMAN, Ariel, Liav and Neeve SLAMA, and Ira CORNE; and by her step-son Steven GENSER. Marion was born to Florence and Dolph BERRYHILL in Winnipeg on April 3, 1929. She graduated with a B.Sc. from the University of Manitoba in Home Economics in 1949 and an M.Sc. in Nutrition from McGill University in 1951. She went on to teach in Halifax, Corvallis and Guelph before joining the University of Manitoba's Home Economics Faculty (now Human Ecology) in 1965 where she taught and did research using sensory methods to evaluate foods such as canola oil. She joined the administration of the University in 1980 as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and served as the Associate Vice President, Research from 1983-91. She published many papers and received a number of awards throughout her career. After her retirement in 1993, she was honoured with Senior Scholar and Professor Emeritus status. Elegant and erudite, sharp witted and well spoken, successful professionally and charming personally, Marion was an inspiration. She worked gladly to further causes as diverse as women in the sciences and Canadian food products. She served on national science committees and even appeared on Korean television to promote flax seeds for her beloved prairie provinces. She loved her family, playing cards, and ending the day with a nice bowl of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce or - joy! - raspberries from the garden. We will all miss her terribly. A memorial service will be held in Winnipeg at 1: 00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29th at Saint John's College Chapel, 92 Dysart Rd. A reception is to follow in the Cross Common Room. Parking is available across the street. In lieu of flowers, and in recognition of the tremendous help provided to Marion by the W.R.H.A. Passed peacefully away at the Ballycliffe Nursing Home in Ajax. Lillian Clara VARDY, 89 years. Predeceased by husband Ralph VARDY and left to mourn, 3 daughters Marg KUTA (Roy,) Trudy ELLUL (Jaycee,) Pam BEATON (Tony,) 5 sons Ted (Anita,) Terry (Loretta,) Tom (Elizabeth,) Mike (TerriLynn) and Philip (Christine), 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, sister Queen GEORGE, brother Raymond DICKS, and a large circle of Friends.
