Harvey retired from the
CUMIS
Group in 1990 where he served as
President and Chief Executive Officer. He chose to make credit
unionism a life long commitment when in 1945 he joined Windsor
Credit Union in Montreal. He served as Managing Director of the
Quebec Credit Union League from 1953 to 1956 and during that
period organized more that 125 credit unions and caisses populaires.
He devoted 34 years of his life to the
CUMIS
Group, since joining
its forer unner, the
CUNA
Mutual
Insurance
Society in 1956. His
aspirations and vision led to the for mation of the
CUMIS
Life
Insurance Company and later the
CUMIS
General
Insurance
Company,
The CUMIS Group Limited and Canadian Northern Shield Insurance
Company. In addition to his full time career with the
CUMIS
Group
he demonstrated extraordinary leadership and diplomacy while
serving on the boards of directors of the Canadian Co-operative
Credit Society, Canadian Co-operative Association, Co-operative
Trust Company of Canada and Co-operators Data Services Limited.
He demonstrated a true philanthropic concern for his fellow citizens
and for his community at large, having served as an active director
on the boards of Big Brothers Association of Hamilton, St. Joseph's
Villa of Dundas, the Hamilton and District Chamber of Commerce,
St. Elizabeth's Nursing Home in Hamilton, the Hamilton and District
Social Planning and Research Council, the Rotary Club of Hamilton,
Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital Foundation, Big Brothers of Canada,
president of the United Way of Canada, president of the Hamilton
& District United Appeal, president of the Catholic Youth Organization
Diocese of Hamilton, chairman of the Hamilton-Wentworth District
Health Council and upon his retirement from the
CUMIS
Group was
recognized with a lifetime appointment as Director Emeritus of
all the CUMIS
Group of companies. At Dad's request, private cremation
has taken place. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Smith's
Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line, (one stoplight north of Queen
Elizabeth Way) Burlington (905-6323333) on Saturday, October

her generation. She attended Brown School and Havergal College,
became a nurse at the Toronto Central Hospital, and after staying
home with her children, engaged in a 40-year successful career
in real estate at Johnston and Daniel. She continued to be involved
in her many activities right up until the day she died. Not only
was she involved in organizations such as Lawrence Park Community
Church and the Serenata Singers, but also, played excellent bridge,
threw dinner parties for Friends and family at her house, enjoyed
the Muskoka cottage and travelling. She always kept in touch
with Friends in good times and bad. She left this message for
us: "Let not your hearts be troubled. I have lived long and well
and have had and given lots of fun and laughter." The family
will receive Friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W. Miles
Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East),

integrity. Paul attended Michael Power High School in Toronto
and The School of Architecture at the University of Waterloo.
He was a partner of the architectural firm J.P. Thomson Associates
Ltd. with offices in Windsor and Chatham, Ontario. Paul's happiest
days were spent with family and dear Friends at his cottage in
Rondeau Park and sailing with his son Matt. He will be mourned
and missed by all who loved him. Visitation will take place on
Thursday, December 8 at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street,
Chatham from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Parish Prayers will be offered
