WHEATON,
Cecil
Albert
(August 10, 1909-August 11, 2005)
Cecil died after a long life, rich with community service, adventure,
and family. C.A. or Cec as he was known to his many Friends and
associates in Saskatoon, was, along with Eileen, his wife of
66 years, a tireless booster of Saskatoon and contributor to
the civic community. C.A. leaves his dear wife Eileen, two daughters,
Kathryn BARNWELL, of Nanaimo, British Columbia, and Nancy
BJERRING,
son- in-law Andy
BJERRING, and granddaughter, Kate
BJERRING,
all of London, Ontario, sister Edythe
STOCKAN of Saskatoon, brother
Don WHEATON and wife, Marion of Edmonton, Alberta, and sister-in-law,
Evelyn KENNEDY of Calgary, Alberta. C.A. was predeceased by his
sister Mame
THOMPSON/THOMSON/TOMPSON/TOMSON. He will be missed by his many nieces and
nephews, especially Ross and Trona
WHEATON of Saskatoon. C.A.
was a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan (1937), and
the Saskatoon Normal School (1934), and taught in Landis, Saskatchewan
and Haultain School (Saskatoon) from 1934-1941. After wartime
work in Ajax, Ontario from 1941-1946, he owned and operated the
family company, Wheaton Electric Co. Ltd., started by his father
A.J. WHEATON and Uncle C.R.
WHEATON in 1913. After selling the
business in 1965, he worked in fundraising and school liaison
for the University of Saskatchewan, and Saskatchewan Institute
of Applied Science and Technology until 1977. During his 60 years
of civic service in Saskatoon, he was member or president of
the Saskatoon of the Saskatoon Construction Association, Rotary,
the University of Saskatchewan Alumni Association, the Canadian
Automobile Association, K40, the Sasktoon Advisory Board, Board
of Governors of the Saskatoon City Hospital, the Exhibition Board,
the Arts Centre (later the Mendel Art Gallery), the Saskatoon
Exhibition Board, the Chamber of Commerce, the Masonic Temple,
the Western Development Museum, and Knox United Church. He was
a city councilor from 1957-1967, whose proudest accomplishment
was the revitalization of the downtown core with the building
of the Saskatoon Centennial Auditorium. C.A.'s love of travel
took him and his family all over the world. He traveled to Europe,
the Middle East, North Africa, Australia, and China. His love
of cars, a lifelong interest, led him to restore both a 1936
Cord car and a 1949 Rolls Royce. He loved music and dancing,
fine food, and conviviality, family, Friends, and community.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Western Development
Museum. Funeral services were held on Monday, August 14, 2005,
2: 00 p.m. at Knox United Church. Email condolences may be sent
