ECCLESTONE, Gordon W., Q.C. (December 3, 1927-April 25, 2005)
Passed away suddenly at age 77 in the early hours of April 25 after a quiet day at his home in 'his paradise' nestled in the hills of Mulmur. A graduate of Osgoode, 'The Silver Fox' practiced law for over forty years, much of it as a member of the prominent law firm 'Humphrey, Locke, Ecclestone and Kane'. He was a founding member of the Criminal Lawyers' Association of Ontario and served for many years on the board of Clifton House. He was a man of high principles who never turned a client away, often working 'pro bono'. Gord looked for the good in people and always brought out the best in them. 'Eccy's' brusque demeanour belied a warm, shy, loving man with a keen mind. He kept his renowned wit and good humour to the end, joking with those around him in his final moments. More comfortable in overalls than a suit, he was always the first to offer help to a friend or neighbour from digging a ditch to moving a dock. A loving husband, adored by his wife, Sue (née WILLIAMS,) his children and their spouses, Scott (Vicky,) Kelly (Garry), Dean (Elsbeth), Craig (Rebecca), Laurie (Victor) and his cherished grandchildren Victoria, Cassandra, Erin, Kalen, Liam, Kevin, Katrien, Tessie, Rowan, Ben, Sean, Nicholas, Logan and Sarah. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary EVANS of Woodstock and Gladys (Jack) Purkis of Toronto. son of the late Dr. Wilfred ECCLESTONE and Gladys Dean ECCLESTONE. The bridge boys will need to continue in the absence of his superior card play and expertise. His dog Buddy will miss sharing the couch with him. The visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Doney Funeral Home, 318 Main Street East, Shelburne. Friends and family are invited to come celebrate a life well lived and a man well loved at the family home, 'The Chalet' on Saturday, April 30, 2005 from 1-5 p.m. If desired, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
