Passed away at St. Peter and Paul Seniors residence on Tuesday, September 20, 2005. Beloved wife of the late Paul. She leaves behind her God-daughter Luba FUNSTON and her family, God-son Nick PJATIKIN, cousin Anna LUCZAK and her husband, granddaughters Irene GLUBISZ and Rosemary MATKOWSKYJ and their families. She will be fondly remembered by her family and Friends in Canada, the United States, and the Ukraine. With her daughters at her side, Muriel FIDLER, daughter of the late Bessie and Charles FEWSTER, passed away peacefully at Central Place in Owen Sound on April 6, 2005 at the age of 84. Beloved mother of Margaret JONES and husband Al of Oshawa, Jane BECKER and partner Tom McTAVISH of Poole, Nancy DAVIDSON and husband Peter DARGIE of Hepworth. Dear grandmother of Jason and Martha BECKER of Peterborough, Sara BECKER and Steve GLUCHOWSKI of Mississauga, Mike and Sharon JONES of Atlanta, Georgia, Nick JONES of Denver, Colorado, Pat JONES of Oshawa, Jennifer DAVIDSON of Toronto and Lyndsay DAVIDSON of Hepworth. Proud great grandmother of Josh, Ali and Brandon. A private family service will be held at the Fewster family plot at Horning's Mills. Cherished dad to John (Judy,) Lynne (Bill McLEAN,) Lois (Don GLUCK;) stepdad to Robin (Chris PIECZORA,) David EASTCOTT (Lorraine,) Brian EASTCOTT (Doris RAJAN) and Linda EASTCOTT (Karen.) Dear grandpa to Lee Ann (Joe Ed), John (Jennifer), Julia (Jason), Daniel (Haley), Robin, Sharon, Rob (Jennifer), Catherine (Scott), Erin, Kim (Berna), Scott, Michelle, Katherine, Brent, Erik, Brooke, Cara, Kayle, Bren and Jaek; great-grandpa to Catherine Ann, Holly, Katie, Sarah, Grace, Hannah and Abby. Predeceased by his wife Gladys Emily. Herbert was a veteran of World War 2 in the Canadian Army. He saw service in the middle east with the United Nations Peace Keeping Force. Herbert retired from the military as a Staff Sergeant after 28 years of service. Born July 21, 1909 in Englehart, Ontario, died peacefully in Toronto on Monday, September 19, 2005. Adored wife of the late Hyman KAPLUN (1977,) beloved mother of Jack and Sandy KAPLUN and Jill KAPLUN and Lorne HALL. " Bub" to Shannon KAPLUN and Jason MULCAHY, Emilie and Link IRELAN, Joshua GLUSKIN and Risa SHERECK, Risa GLUSKIN and Val DODGE, Lindsay, Brad and Jay HALL. Great-grandmother to Della, Ryan, Cooper and Miller. Loving sister of Esther and (the late) Joseph LIEBERMAN, Lazar and (the late) Mary SLOTNICK. Predeceased by siblings Jack SLOTNICK, Sarah BROWN and Dora LEVEEN.
Lillian was a pioneer in bringing her scientific baking methods to young women. Throughout the 1950s, she conducted baking classes in her living room and later opened the first established cooking school in Toronto. Although a woman of many accomplishments -- a businesswoman, an early feminist and the oldest living survivor of breast cancer in Toronto -- her proudest achievement was her family. Lillian leaves a living legacy in her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her series of cookbooks, the last of which was published in her late eighties.
