Man Dies Day After Crash
A Maxwell area man died unexpectedly in hospital this morning
after being involved in a single vehicle rollover early Wednesday
evening, November 30.
The man was operating a burgundy 2003 Ford Econoline van eastbound
in the eastbound lane of Grey Road 4 just east of Grey Highlands
Road 63, which is a straight stretch before the end of Grey Road
4 at Grey Road 124. The van crossed the oncoming lane and left
the roadway before rolling in the north ditch and ending up on
its roof in a wet field beyond the fence line. Open liquor was
found in the interior of the vehicle.
The driver was taken to the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital
by ambulance and the German Shepherd Dog in his company was picked
up by an Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals officer
who transported the dog to an Owen Sound area vet office.
Thomas HYLAND, 51, of Grey Highlands was admitted to hospital
in serious but stable condition. He died suddenly just after
8 a.m. Thursday morning, December 1. A post mortem examination
was scheduled to take place in Barrie on December 2.
Grey County O.P.P. is continuing to investigate. It has been
established that the deceased was not utilizing a seatbelt at
the time of the rollover and that alcohol played a factor in
the crash. Anyone with information that might assist is asked
to contact Grey County O.P.P. at 1-888-310-1122. Constable Chris
SLOBODIAN is the investigating officer.
