Three people killed in accident
Driver, 20, a University of Toronto commerce student
Passengers, 15 and 16, died at scene
By Tracy HUFFMAN and Matthew
KWONG,
Staff
Reporters
Slippery roads, poor visibility and high speed are likely contributors
to a pre-dawn car crash yesterday that left three people dead
in North York.
A white Buick spun out of control around 5: 20 a.m., hitting a
light standard and striking a home on Willowdale Ave., near Yonge
St. and Finch Ave. E., said city police Det. Wally
WATTS of traffic
services.
"Speed, weather, steering. It could be fatigue at that time of
the morning,"
WATTS said.
"We're looking at all of the factors -- nothing immediately jumps
out."
The 20-year-old driver, Hong-Jae
LEE, of Toronto, was rushed
to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
He died nearly 12 hours later, at 4: 25 p.m., at Sunnybrook hospital.
The two passengers, a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl,
were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Toronto police said they are trying to contact the next of kin
with the help of the Korean consulate general.
LEE was a conscientious student at the University of Toronto,
Scarborough campus, who loved dogs, his grief-stricken brother-in-law
said.
"He was just a normal kid going into his first year of university,"
Cesar OH said.
"He was a good uncle to my son, Isaac,"
OH said, adding that
the commerce student would often offer to babysit the 1-year-old.
Last night, the family gathered with close Friends from
LEE's
church as well as a priest and shared their memories.
"He's funny and I think he was his mom's favourite,"
OH said.
"Everybody knows he was the one who liked to talk during family
dinners... to break the ice."
In high school,
LEE was an A-student who volunteered at a seniors'
home and he also planned to continue doing volunteer work in
university, Ohio said.
"My mother-in-law is having a really hard time with the shock.
It's shocking for everybody, but she's the mother,"
OH said.
"It's going to be a while."
WATTS said police didn't know where the victims had been or where
they were headed.
For several hours yesterday morning, yellow tape and police cruisers
cordoned off the area around the crash as members of the Toronto
police traffic reconstruction squad worked in the rain photographing,
measuring and examining the scene.
The back of the Buick Le Sabre slammed into the brown brick home
on the southeast corner of Willowdale and Bishop Aves.
The white car remained in the front yard of 857 Willowdale Ave.
while officers attempted to determine how the accident happened.
Police believe the vehicle was travelling south on Willowdale
Ave. when it struck a metal light standard.
No one was injured inside the home.
But police said one man had just left for work, missing the incident
by minutes.
Residents of the area said drivers use many streets in the neighbourhood
as shortcuts to avoid heavier traffic on Yonge.
Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call traffic
services at 416-808-1900.

SNELL,
Paul
On January 6, 2005, peacefully, with God's love and his family
at his side, Paul moved forward to eternal love. His prayers
were answered when he was able to celebrate Christmas with his
family and stand up for his son, Craig, at his wedding on December
31, 2004. At that time he was able to renew his own wedding vows
with his wife of 42 years, Sandra. He is so loved and fondly
remembered by his wife, Sandra, his children Linda (Dave), Lisa
(Rich), Craig (Angela), and his adored grandchildren Brittany,
Sam, Mackenzie, Jenna, Lauren and Jamie. He joins his mother
and father, Helen and Bill
SNELL, his brother Bill and his beloved
Bayley in eternal life. He will also keep vigil over his brothers
and sisters, Marlene (Orlando - predeceased), Carol, Mary, Shirley
(Cec), Susan (Rick), Leo (Margaret), Leonard (Linda) and John
(Rachelle); his mother and father-in-law Sam and Mary, brother-in-law
John (Judy) and his many nieces and nephews. Paul always had
a big smile, kind word and loving embrace for all those around
him. He had the unique ability to see good in all. He and Sandra
found the perfect retirement community at Foxboro Green in Baden,
Ontario. Their many Friends in this community and beyond have
been kind and compassionate and have gone far beyond the call
of Friendship at this time of need. His long time Friends Paul
(Guy) and Kathy (Girlfriend)
O'HAGAN have been pillars of strength
and love for him and his family. Paul saw his illness as a blessing.
It brought him to a higher spiritual level and closer to God.
He was blessed to have quality time with his family and Friends.
He had exceptional care and compassion from all the people and
professionals at Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, Hopespring,
Waterloo and William Osler Oncology Clinic, Peel. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Paul's name
at one of the above centres so that they may continue to give
such great care to all those in need. The cancer only took his
body but not his soul, spirit and faith, it only nurtured and
strengthened his commitment to life and God. As his best buddy
has said "Knowing him made me a better person". God bless you
Paul. Relatives and Friends are invited to visitation at Mark
Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Sunday, January
9, 2005 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. On Monday, January 10, 2005 at
10: 00 a.m. prayers will be held at the funeral home followed
by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church
at 11: 00 a.m. with Father Charles
FEDY officiating. Cremation
to follow. Parish prayers will be held at the funeral home on

He played many instruments, the violin, harmonica, banjo, piano
and guitar. He enjoyed playing the fiddle until the Alzheimer's
took that away from him. He enjoyed the 20 plus years spent at
the Shelburne fiddle competitions and the Blythe steam shows.
His love of flowers was seen in his beautiful flower beds and
gardens. He loved his strawberries fresh out of his garden. The
late Leonard
BRAGG will rest at the L.A. Ball Funeral Chapel
