After attending London University, he become pastor, in 1904,
at Poyle Church, Buckinghamshire. In 1907, he left England for
missionary work in Korea and Manchuria and for the next 20 years
worked for the British and Foreign Bible Societies. In 1927, he
arrived in Toronto as minister at Parkdale Presbyterian Church
and stayed until 1939. After that he taught at the Toronto Bible
College until a first retirement in 1948. In 1949, he became
the interim minister at Dunn Memorial Church, Longbranch (later

and maintained that his annual salary of $1,300 was sufficient.
He remained at St. James until 1960, when he finally retired.
During his ministry, he was presented to King George V at Buckingham
