ROWLAND, Olive▼ Marguerite▼ (née COLLINS)
In Hanover, Ontario on December 2, 2004. Olive (née COLLINS) was in her 95th year, wife of the late Col. Fraser Hugh ROWLAND of London; loving mother of Barbara (Bart) McCAUGHEY, of Edmonton, John▼ (Cvitka▼) of Hanover, Carolyn Ruth (Adriaan) ROWLAND, of London and Frances Sheila ROWLAND of Collingwood. Sadly missed by her brother, Clifford COLLINS of Cleveland, Ohio and Melbourne, Florida, eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Predeceased by brothers Howard, Earl and Glen.
Born on a farm at Bervie, Bruce County, Olive attended the University of Western Ontario on a scholarship, graduating in Arts 1931. She taught all high school subjects in Port Elgin until her marriage in 1937 and raised two small children during the Second World War while Fraser served in England and Australia. She raised two children born post-war in Winnipeg and in Ottawa, where Fraser served at National Defence headquarters. Olive and Fraser returned to London in 1960 when Fraser joined the University of Western Ontario School of Business after his retirement from the Canadian Army. In London, Olive was finally able to indulge her lifelong interest in art and became an accomplished landscape, floral and portrait painter. On her 1972 return to another rural setting in Bruce County, she devoted her time to the Southampton Art Society and founded the Shoreline Artists Group in Port Elgin. A private graveside service was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Owen Sound on December 6. A memorial service to honour and celebrate the life of Olive ROWLAND will be held on Saturday April 16, 2 p.m. at the Port Elgin United Church, 840 Bruce Street. Passed away peacefully on May 1, 2005, in her 95th year, at Mount Sinai Hospital. She leaves behind to share in their memories her family: daughter Verona McCAUGHEY (Toronto) and son Roy VARDY (Woodstock), her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, her sister Veronica COWLING and brother Basil WEATHERELL. She was predeceased by her husband Henry in 1981. Her family would like to thank all the individuals who assisted Audrey in maintaining her independence. Peacefully and surrounded by his family at Bluewater Health - Mitton St. on Monday, October 10th, 2005, Samuel James McCAUGHEY, age 77, of Corunna, passed away. Dear father of Terri HILLIS and her husband Bill of Oshawa, Joanne ENSER and her husband Helmut of Toronto, Colin McCAUGHEY of Etobicoke and Alison RAHM and her husband Scott of LaSalle, loving grandfather of Nicole, Haakim, Nolan and Brady. Six sisters, three brothers and many nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by a brother Robert, a twin sister Jane and a sister Elizabeth. Born in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, Sam has been in Canada for more than 50 years and was a proud member of Moore Masonic Lodge No.294. He retired as a Pipefitter with Shell Oil Ltd. Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of the D.J. Robb Funeral Home, Sarnia on Thursday, October 13th at 1: 00 p.m. Cremation will follow. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday between the hours of 2: 00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the charity of choice would be appreciated. Beloved wife of the late Gordon SCHAEFER who predeceased her July 28, 2004. Dear father of William and wife Rosemary SCHAEFER of Kirkton. MacAULAY, Dorothy Ellen " Dot" (née HOWE)
Died Peacefully on March 1, 2005 in the home that she created. Born in Sault Ste. Marie on September 21, 1925, daughter of Stan and Minerva HOWE. Educated at Victoria College (UofT,) Western Reserve, and as a Kellogg Fellow at the University of Alberta, she was the art consultant at the Forest Hill Board of Education. She and her husband John raised two sons, Peter and Michael. She crested happiness for many, many people with art that she crested thousands of "hasty notes", and thousands of visual expressions throughout the lives of her Friends and family. Canadian art and world travel gave her joy and the return home to share stories with her family. At age 80, she was content to go, but she leaves behind her best friend and husband John, her sons, daughter-in-law Bev, grandchildren Gavin and Claire, brother Bob and wife Shirley, brother Conn and Doreen; also Nancy, John, Terry, Lori, Brian, Mary Ann, Stan, Vicki, and Lorne. It is with great sadness that the family of Brian "Ollie" McAULAY announce his sudden passing. Brian ended his earthly journey on Monday, February 1, 2005 surrounded by love. He was in his 50th year. Brian leaves his precious children, Kristen and Kevin, who filled his life with light; his dear stepdaughter Kerri and wife Dawn; his beloved mother Jean WHITE/WHYTE and father Archie McAULAY and grandmother Lilly. Brian will be dearly missed by his sisters Brenda (Ray), Heather (Joe), and brother Gary (Jen). Bri was a special uncle to Jason, Trish, Dan, Brad, Jesse, Kaitlin, Melanie and Sean, and great uncle to Andrew and Gabrielle. He will be greatly missed by his many Friends and his Allweather family. Kay MISNER, a resident of Sault Ste. Marie and formerly of Tehkummah Township, died at the Sudbury Regional Hospital, Memorial Site on Friday, December 30, 2004 at the age of 84 years.
She was born in England, daughter of the late Frank and Edith (LOVEJOY) PRICE. Kay was a member of Saint John's Anglican Church in South Baymouth and had a number of other interests. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Air Force, the Senior's Triangle Club in Tehkummah, was an avid gardener and also enjoyed knitting. Kay was predeceased by her beloved husband Leslie Charles MISNER in 1999. Loving and loved mother of Sharran BUTLAND and husband Stephen, David MISNER and wife Sandy, Mary-Ann McCAULEY and husband Gary, Susan CORMIER and husband Roger, Colin MISNER and Kathleen HILL and husband Terry all of Sault Ste. Daughter of A.B. COLEMAN and Samena DeWitt COLEMAN of Burlington, Ontario, life partner for 64 years to F.H. Kim KRENZ of Lakefield, Ontario; Aunt Kate, Great Aunt Kate, and Great, Great Aunt Kate to the Baines's, the Coburns, the Harts, the Sissons', the Jefferys, the Fullertons, the Sturgesses, the McCauleys and their offspring of the extended COLEMAN family in Canada. Kate was predeceased by an earlier husband, Frederick G.C. PHILLIPS, in 1937. Kate left this earth on January 15, 2005, four days after her 92nd birthday, with her beloved Kim at her bedside, at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. She is sorely missed by her sister Elizabeth McCAULEY of Owen Sound, her sister-in-law Margaret Krenz ST. CLAIR of Ashland, Oregon, brother-in-law George SCHOTCH of Vancouver, and by the Schotches of Halifax, by "adopted daughter" Caroline PEARSON and family of Canton, New York, by Felecia STITCHER of Surprise, Arizona, and by all whose lives she touched during a lifetime spent in Canada, Scotland, and Italy. Her two years with Kim in Italy are recorded in her charming book "Our Love Affair With Italy." Her Italian Friends have remained Friends throughout her life. Kate was a beautiful woman, vivacious and full of fun, and was a pillar of goodness, with consideration and concern for everyone she met. With no children of her own, she enriched the lives of many children, and the lives of their parents. Cremation is to be managed by the Hendren Funeral Home of Lakefield. Madeline SHAUFLER went to be with the Lord on September 8th 2005 in the arms of her loving daughter Sharon JOHNSTON at her home. She was soon to be 98 years old. She is predeceased by her husband Harry▼ in 1964, twin babies 1938, a sister Margaret MARIS 1992 and a son-in-law John DODMAN 1986. She is survived by her five daughters Margaret STEINBURG (Howard,▼) Etna▼ SHAW (Robert,) Edythe REID (Harry), Diana McAUSLAN (Gordon) and Sharon JOHNSTON (Jim). Her legacy includes 23 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Madeline made her home with the McAuslan family for over 40 years. She provided loving care to a second generation of five girls and continued to provide care and support as Diana's M.S. progressed. She was loved and cherished by all who knew her. Funeral service will be held at Denning Bros. Funeral Home, 32 Metcalfe St. W. Strathroy on Monday September 12th at 11: 00 a.m. with Reverend Morley CLARKE officiating. A graveside service will be held at Rosedale Cemetery in Tilbury at 4: 00 p.m. In lieu of flowers Madeline had requsted donations to the M.S. Society. Born in Enniskillen Twp., daughter of the late Herbert and Mabel (BROWN) ELSOM. Beloved wife of the late Bruce McAUSLAN (1987.) Lila is survived by sisters Evelyn CROSS of R.R.#1 Bothwell, Eleanor THOMAS of Peterborough; a brother Alfred ELSOM of Wardsville, and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a sister Alice McCRACKEN. At Lila's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place with the interment in Shetland Cemetery at a later date. Beloved wife of Samuel McLORN and dearly loved mother of Josephine Faith and her husband Peter SYMES of England, Edith Caroline McLORN of British Columbia, James "Jim" Rogers McLORN of Sault Ste. Marie and Angus Samuel McLORN of Saint Thomas. Dear sister-in-law of Violet McLORN of Saint Thomas. Loved grandmother of Jennifer Elissa SYMES, Bryony Sarah SYMES and Emily Marie McLORN. Faith was born in Saint Thomas, on February 5, 1922, the daughter of the late Walter Irving and Violet Ada (McCAUSLAND) ROGERS. She was a life member of Sparta Baptist Church and a member of the Sparta Soris Womens Institute, Amnesty International and Oxfam and a supporter of Covenant House. Faith graduated from Alma College in 1940, University of Western Ontario in 1946. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, Saint Thomas where funeral service will be held Monday at 1: 00 p.m. Interment to follow in Sparta Cemetery.
