Artist, writer, gardener and teacher, died peacefully at home
on June 24, 2005 after a long battle with cancer. Born in Halifax
on July 12, 1947, she was the daughter of Dr. Edward Lefferts
THORNE and Edith Frances
(HILL)
THORNE.
She attended Sir Charles
Tupper Elementary School, Cornwallis Junior High School and Queen
Elizabeth High School in Halifax before earning a Bachelor of
Arts degree at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick,
in 1968. She went on to graduate studies in literature at Memorial
University in Saint John's, Newfoundland., and anthroposophy and
education at Emerson College in Sussex, England. She also studied
art at Emerson and Arscura in Toronto. She taught at Holy Heart
of Mary Regional High School in Saint John's, Rockingham School
in Halifax, the Child Life Department at the Isaac Walton Killam
Hospital for Sick Children in Halifax, the American School in
Salvador, Brazil, and Bayview Glen School in the York Region
of Toronto. She married Michael
YETMAN at Saint Mary's Bay, Newfoundland,
on June 6, 1977, in Sussex. They lived in England; Salvador and
Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Elliot Lake, Ontario, before settling
in Richmond Hill, Ontario, north of Toronto, in 1983. They had
two sons Matthew, born in England, and Christopher, born in Brazil.
She is survived by her husband and two sons, as well as her mother
a sister, Susan of Liverpool, Nova Scotia; and two brothers,
Edward of Millarville, Alberta., and Stephen of Ottawa. She read
profusely, loved good food and to be surrounded by close Friends
and family. That is how she died. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. The funeral service
will be held in the Christian Community Church, 901 Rutherford
Road, Vaughan at 9: 00 a.m. Tuesday, June 28. Services will be
followed by cremation.
