Sister
Eleanore, C.S.J.
Peacefully, after a brief illness at Saint_Joseph's Motherhouse,

Daughter of the late Milas Paul
MOIR and Catherine Theresa
BROPHY.
Predeceased by her sisters Mrs. Mary (George)
DALES,
Mrs.
Ada
(Anthony) FITZMAURICE, Mrs. Josephine (Joseph)
MOORE, Mrs. Anne
(Edward) STAHLBRODT, and Winnifred
MOIR. Survived by her sisters
Mrs. Jean (Edward)
BAUER, Sister Mary William (Grace) C.S.J.
(London), many nieces and nephews and the members of her religious
family, the Sisters of Saint_Joseph of Hamilton. The Sisters of
Saint_Joseph will welcome family and Friends at Saint_Joseph's Convent,
Hamilton from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6: 30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday,
March 20. A Vigil Service will be held on Monday, March 20 at
7 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday,
March 21 at 10 a.m. at Saint_Joseph's Convent, Hamilton. Interment
at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In 1942, Sister Eleanore graduated
from Hamilton Normal School and began a lifelong ministry as
a religious educator. She received her Bachelor of Arts from
McMaster University in 1950. A lifelong learner herself, Sister
Eleanore holds a myriad of specialist certificates and a host
of post graduate credit courses taken to enhance her ministry
of education. Sister taught in the primary grades in Hamilton,
Brantford, Kenilworth and Dawson Creek. At the secondary level,
she taught for seven years at Cathedral Girl's High School in
Hamilton. She devoted 23 years of her ministry to the pupils
of Saint_John's College in Brantford as a much appreciated and
respected teacher and mentor. After her retirement from teaching,
Sister Eleanore's interest in people invited her into the ministry
of Pastoral Care. Integrity called her to become C.A.P.P.E. certified
in order to be as prepared as possible to minister to God's people.
She exercised her ministry of care at Saint_Joseph's Hospital,
Brantford, Saint_Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton and Hamilton General
Hospital through St. Patrick's Parish, Hamilton. One particular
facet of her pastoral work delighted her heart and that was her
volunteer ministry as a rehabilitation and pastoral care worker
at Burtch Correctional Institute in Brantford and
at Brantford
City Jail. Later, she volunteered as a literacy instructor at
Hamilton City Jail. Sister Eleanore's long commitment to the
education of young people and an engagement with their needs
in these complex times gave her a particular compassion and sensitivity
for troubled youth and those caught in the trap of drug and other
addictions. In 2001, declining health forced Sister Eleanore
to give up her active involvement in the ministry and she turned
her full attention to the ministry of prayer for the many intentions
that came her way, never forgetting those whose plight had claimed
her attention during her years of active ministry. The absence
of Sister Eleanore's serene, generous and prayerful self will
linger forever.

Man charged with murder
Hamilton man charged, Ottawa man dies after incident in Collingwood
By Shawn GIILCK,
Tuesday,
April 18, 2006, Page A1
Collingwood - An Ottawa man is dead and a Hamilton man faces
charges after police were called to an Elm Street home Sunday
morning.
Collingwood Ontario Provincial Police and emergency response
officials were called to the house at 7: 30 a.m.
The victim, identified as Stephen
LONG, was taken to Collingwood's
General and Marine Hospital and later transferred to Sunnybrook
Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, where he died at 11: 19 a.m.
Collingwood Ontario Provincial Police arrested Christopher Michael
BROUGHTON, 27, a short distance from the Elm Street house. The
Hamilton resident faces charges of first-degree murder and attempted
murder, Const. Tim
GARLAND said Monday afternoon. He is scheduled
to appear in Collingwood court April 25.
It was unknown Monday whether the men knew each other or what
they were doing in Collingwood.
The cause of death was not being released pending the completion
of a post-mortem Monday afternoon.
It's the second serious incident in Collingwood in a week. Last
weekend an unidentified Wasaga Beach man was found beaten on
Hurontario Street in the early morning hours. The Ontario Provincial
Police has released little information in that case and no suspects
have been identified.
Elm street remained cordoned off Monday morning as the investigation
continued.
"It's certainly disturbing," said Dana
DOYLE, who lives two houses
away from the murder scene. "It's certainly sad that it happened,
but (media) are trying to link it to the beating last weekend.
I think it's out of proportion for Collingwood."
DOYLE said he heard people speaking loudly in the back yard of
the house early Sunday morning when he took his dog out.
"I couldn't make out anything. They weren't arguing or anything
like that."
DOYLE said he was unfamiliar with the people who owned the house.
"I don't know how long they've lived there. Maybe a year or two.
I think there's a grandmother, a mother and two children who
are in their 20s."
There was a party at the house Saturday night, but
DOYLE said
he didn't hear any noise from it.
"I don't know who was at the party."
The investigation has been turned over to the Ontario Provincial
Police Criminal Investigations Branch under Det. Insp. Bernie
MURPHY.
