HORVATH,
Eugene▼ E.D., P.Eng., B.Sc. (Lt. Col.)
Formerly of Etobicoke, Ontario at Guelph General Hospital on
May 15, 2006 after a long and healthy life at age 91. Dearly
beloved husband of Marjorie
HORVATH (née Marjorie
MacVEY) and
devoted father of Joan
HORVATH and Peter, son David
HORVATH and
Nancy of Guelph and the late Scott
HORVATH [1946-1972]. Lovingly
remembered by George
MacVEY and Elaine, Eleanor
RAINE, and Betty
MacVEY of Vancouver. Dear Uncle of many nieces and nephews and
extended family in British Columbia. Eugene graduated in Mechanical
Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan (1941) where he
was active in fencing, wrestling and the debating team. He served
overseas four and a half years with the Royal Canadian Electrical
and Mechanical Engineers. After the war, in his consulting engineering
practice, he designed heating and air conditioning systems, on
such projects as the Queen Elizabeth building, the Eglinton reservoir,
the Toronto Transit Commission Bloor-Danforth subway and a variety
of public school buildings and Pumping Stations. An active member
of the Association of Professional Engineers for twenty years,
Eugene was awarded an Officer of the Order of Honour. He served
on the Executive of the Kingsway Chapter for ten years and initiated
a Careers Information program involving both practicing engineers
and guidance counsellors. An engineer, thinker and energetic
man Gene always knew what had to be done and simply kept at it,
whether during the war, managing his engineering practice, inspiring
young engineers, or being involved in local and national politics,
or skipping a curling team. He was a life time member at the
Boulevard Club. He was passionate about curling and golf, his
stamp and coin collection, his garden and most of all his home
and family. An inspiration to his children and wife of 60 years,
Gene had strength of character, enthusiasm, optimism, a delightful
sense of humour and he loved life. Dear Dad, you will remain
in our hearts forever. A memorial service will be announced later.
If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke
Foundation of Canada or the University of Saskatchewan. Arrangements
entrusted to the Gilchrist Chapel - McIntyre and Wilkie Funeral
Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph (519-824-0031). We invite you
