MITCHELL, Elsie Barbara (née ORMSBY)
Passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary on Friday March 10, 2006, six weeks short of her 94th birthday. Elsie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter Barbara McNEIL, son-in-law Grant McNEIL, grand_sons Scott and Evan McNEIL, and her husband of fifty-six years, Andrew MITCHELL, all of Calgary. All of Elsie's eleven siblings predeceased her: brothers Earl, Elmer, Cecil, Clare, Otto, Jack, Russell and Stewart ORMSBY and William RATHWELL; and sisters Mary (Mrs. Frank KERR) and Lillian (Mrs. Robert BURNS.) She is survived by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Della ORMSBY of Owen Sound, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their extended families. Elsie was born April 21st, 1912 on the 11th Line, St. Vincent Township, the ninth of twelve children in the blended family of Daniel ORMSBY and Matilda Kinch Rathwell ORMSBY. At the age of eighteeen she left her country home for the big city lights of Toronto, where she resided for the next sixty years. In 1990 she moved to Calgary to be near Barbara and her family, where she treasured the years she had watching her adored grand_sons grow. No matter where life took her, however, Elsie always maintained a strong attachment to and affection for her Grey County roots. In keeping with Elsie's wishes, cremation has taken place and no service was held. Interment to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens, Calgary. If family and Friends so desire, a memorial tribute in Elsie's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 - 14 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 1Z6, or any other charity of the donor's choice, would be appreciated.

Marion MacDOUGALL, a resident of Spring Bay, died at her residence on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the age of 80 years. She was born in Halifax County, Nova Scotia, daughter of the late James and Ella (DAVID) SCHMEISSER. In her younger years, Marion was an accomplished baseball player and her efforts were rewarded when she was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame. Throughout her life she had the job of caring for people, from the time she was a young girl, helping with her family and through the years with others who needed her help. She was always ready and able to help when needed. Marion was a professional mother, her family and her home were her life. If you take all the wonderful things a mother can be, Marion was all of those and more. Many wonderful memories will be cherished. Marion was predeceased by her beloved husband Stan MacDOUGALL. At University Hospital on Friday, May 5, 2006, Shirley Margaret (HARDY) McNAIR, beloved wife of the late Kenneth T. McNAIR (1974.) Loving and devoted mother of John H. McNAIR and his wife Deborah of Thorndale and Doctor Susan McNAIR and her husband Doctor Edward MacNEIL of London. Shirley regretfully leaves four grandchildren, Kenneth and William McNAIR and Margaret and Clara MacNEIL. Also loved by her sister Doctor Madeline HARDY and husband Doctor J.G. McMURRAY of London. Predeceased by her parents, Homer J. (1971) and Bella HARDY (1992.) Shirley was active on the Board of the Women's Christian Association and on the Building Committee of the new Parkwood Hospital. She was a Past President of the McCormick Home Auxiliary. Her commitment to her church was central in her life. She presided as Clerk of Session at New Saint_James Presbyterian Church from 1987 to present. In her varied life roles, most notably that of mother, she was greatly loved for her faith, wisdom, compassion, insight and keen sense of humour. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Patricia WALSH, Robyn WALSH, Kelly, Lee, and Abigail ROBINSON, his faithful canine companion Oliver, as well as his sister, Delores DALEY, and her family, Denise Daley NORMAN, Thomas▼ NORMAN, Mary NORMAN, Peter NORMAN, Krista DALEY, and Alicia DALEY. Doctor MacNEIL was educated at Saint Anne's School (Glace Bay), Saint Mary's University, Dalhousie University, and the University of Alberta. He was a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and the American College of Chest Physicians. He had a distinguished career as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Dalhousie Medical School and served as the Director of the Intensive Care Unit at the Victoria General Hospital and the Medical Director of the hospital's Respiratory Technology Unit. He was a passionate yachtsman, never happier than when he was behind the wheel of Dies Irae or Battle Hymn with Patricia by his side. Dies Irae raced her first Marblehead to Halifax race in 1977. In 1993, he skippered Battle Hymn for the first of four subsequent Marblehead races, the final being in 2001. Doctor MacNEIL was always ready to participate in ensuring fairness in his chosen sport and served, for many years, as a Canadian Yachting Association Certified Judge. He was a Past Rear Commodore of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron and a Past Commodore of the Armdale Yacht Club. He was also a member of the Conservative Party of Canada. After his passing, he was able to ensure the gift of life and the gift of sight to others through tissue donation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that everyone sign their organ donor cards. Born in Antigonish January 2nd, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Gustave and Margaret (MacMASTER) HEUSER. Following graduation from high school in Sydney Mines and Teachers Collage in Truro, she taught for 19 years at various schools in Nova Scotia: MacLeans' Bridge, Heatherton, Florence, North Sydney, Teachers Collage (Truro), Baddeck Academy 1949-1950. She▼ married Charles David (Buddy) DUNLOP from Baddeck, son of Gerald and Bessie (MacASKILL) DUNLOP. She▼ and Buddy owned and operated the Telegraph house for over 50 years and MacAskills Funeral home. Her concern for individual and community well being was demonstrated over the years through her many fundraising efforts to improve the schools in which she taught and the communities in which she lived. Passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer on Thursday, December 29th, 2005 at the age of 63. Beloved mother to Donald (Bess). Died on January 3, 2006 at the Peel Memorial Hospital, Brampton, at the age of 73. Born in North Sydney, Cape Breton. He was the son of the late James and Catherine (née MacLEAN) MacNEIL. Frank spent the early years in North Sydney and New Waterford, Cape Breton, moving to Brampton, Ontario in the 50's. He is survived by his sister Pauline MacSWEEN of Ontario, California and Annie JONES of Claremont, California. He was predeceased by his sisters Imelda, Theresa, brothers Donald, Alex, John James, Henry, Hector, Lloyd and Gregory. Friends may call at the Ward Funeral Home "Brampton Chapel", 52 Main Street South (Hwy. 10), Brampton, on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Legion Tribute to be held Thursday at 7: 30 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in the Ward Chapel on Friday, January 6, 2006 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. Born February 21, 1921 in Toronto, Ontario, Dick KENZIE died peacefully at Saint Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Ontario on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at the age of 84. Loving uncle of 10 nieces and nephews: Ian KENZIE, Wendy (Jim) MICHAEL, Stephen (Branka) KENZIE, William (Diane) KENZIE, Deborah (Rob) FORGIE, Richard KENZIE, Brenda (Eb) MERCER, Robert KENZIE, Patricia (Steve) BELLAMY and Charles (Tracey) KENZIE. Dear brother-in-law of Joan (KENZIE) McNEIL and Joan KENZIE. He will be fondly remembered by many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Marjorie and George KENZIE and brothers William and George. Dick was a retired manager at Manpower in Belleville. Dick proudly served in the Canadian Army in World War 2 with the 48th Highlanders. He was a lifetime member of Kiwanis, and was a 53 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, a member of Federal Superannuates National Association and a Continuing Sergeant in the Old Comrades section of the 48th Highlanders. Dick's family thanks the staff at The Westmount especially the 3rd floor nursing staff for the wonderful care Dick received in his years there and the staff at Saint Mary's Hospital. Mr. KENZIE is at the Westmount Funeral Chapel, 1001 Ottawa St. South, Kitchener, Ontario (519-743-8900) where his family will receive Friends on Monday evening from 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock. Passed away at age 83, in Toronto, on April 10, 2006 after a long illness. Born May 21, 1922 in Parnu, Estonia, she met her future husband, Paul, in 1947 in a Swedish refugee camp before immigrating to Montreal in 1950, and settling in the Toronto area later that year. Hard-working and creative, she especially enjoyed music, reading, knitting, sewing, and the beach. She worked for Hallmark Coutts for over 30 years. She is survived by her daughters, Tiiu Leek JACOBSON and Enda McNEIL and their spouses, Bill JACOBSON, and Michael McNEIL, as well as her grandchildren, Lindsay TAUB, Kara and Sean McNEIL, and Bo JACOBSON.
