REYNOLDS,
Edna
Grace
(GAMBLIN)
(December 23, 1913-October 20, 2006)
Edna/Gracie departed peacefully at her home 'Sunrise Assisted
Living' in Oakville, Ontario, with her grand_son Josh at her side.
Pre-deceased by her husband Bob (1981,) parents Fredk J.
GAMBLIN and
A. Rose AUSTIN, and her two older sisters Wynn and Beatrice (Tisa.)
She leaves her only child, Robert F.
REYNOLDS
(Denise) and her
two adored grandchildren, Joshua and Michael. Edna was born in
Winnipeg after her parents and sisters had emigrated from Chatham,
Kent, England. Her mother died at age 45 leaving Edna to be was
raised by her father and 16 year old sister Beatrice - in the
home built by her father. Some of her happiest memories were
of swimming at the family cottage near Ingolf, Ontario She was
nominated Valedictorian and graduated from Saint John's High School
in 1930. After several jobs in depression ridden Winnipeg, she
was hired by the new Trans Canada Airlines (Air Canada) and moved
to Edmonton where she met her husband, a Trans Canada Airlines
radio operator. Ever restless, Bob moved his family to Blissville,
New Brunswick, Montreal, Toronto until settling in Vancouver
in 1951. Employee travel privileges enabled Edna and Bob to travel
the world. Edna loved her gardens, potatoes and masking tape,
for which she had 1001 uses. She remained in her home until age
90, directing business from the end of her phone, which earned
her the designation of role model for independent living. This
was made possible by her dear companion Carolyn Affleck who provided
assistance and true Friendship for years. Also, Alan McMillan
for providing Friendship and for 'Driving Miss Edna.' By 2004,
Edna could no longer remain in her home and moved to 'Sunrise'
in Oakville, near her family. She enjoyed her years there; the
comfort of her surroundings and the royal treatment provided
by 'her' staff. If desired, donations may be made to the Canadian
Cancer Society, B.C. / Yukon Div., the Heart and Stroke Foundation
of British Columbia and Yukon.
