PLUMB, Arthur " Art" George
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 in the Veterans' Wing (K-Wing) of Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre at the age of 87. Art served as a Lieutenant with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment and saw duty in Holland and Germany. Member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 10. Life Member of the Canadian Professional Sales Association. Member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Association. Art is survived by his wife Wendy, their daughter Jane (Lindsay PEARLMAN) and grandchildren Hannah and Jonah. Also survived by his children -- Sandra (Peter CROOK) grandchildren Doug, Geoffrey and Susan (Doug); Nancy (Vic PFEIFFER) -- grandchildren Ryan (Debbie,) Jarrett (Daniella,) Angela, Tyler (Monique); Ron (Risa), and great grandchildren Alexander, Adrianne, Raymond and Micha. Art spent the last 19 years of his life as a resident of K-Wing. His greatest ambition was to 'perpetuate the veteran identity'. As President of The Veterans' and Community Residents' Council for a total of 10 years, he brought about many changes that improved the lives of his fellow comrades -- especially 'Bullet' (the bus he was told would never materialize). He was an original member of the Veterans' Advisory Committee to the Board of Directors of Sunnybrook and Women's. Art received the Canada 125 Medal and the Queen's Jubilee Medal for his contributions to the veteran community at Sunnybrook. Art was a fountain of information about K-Wing and Sunnybrook. When someone had a question or problem, they were usually advised to 'Ask Art Plumb'. He loved to paint -- both watercolours and silk scarves. Many thanks to Lorrie CLARKE and Sue WATSON for their guidance in these endeavours which brought him much pleasure. Art received excellent care on unit K2 East under the management of Suzanne PLOWMAN. The family is so grateful for all that was done to keep him comfortable during difficult times. His nurses were his 'angels' -- especially Delores. Thanks also to Dr. Sheldon TURNER. Visitation at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street (south of Steeles), on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the Sunnybrook Chapel (E-Wing) on Friday March 3rd at 10: 00 a.m. Interment in the Veterans' section B of York Cemetry, Senlac Road (Yonge and Sheppard Avenue area), North York.
