THORNBER and loving sister of Vera
VALANTIC. A former Miss Czechoslovakia, Toronto 1961; English
as a Second Language and Home Economics (Family Studies) Teacher,
King Edward Public School, Toronto, 1962-1979; Director, Hillcrest
Residents and Ratepayers Association; and President and Chief
Executive Officer: The Mad Hamper, Irene Ashley Designs and Bijoux
Bajan. Irene's design work has been showcased at the Royal Ontario
Museum and Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto and throughout the
Caribbean, Australia, London and Italy. Irene's talented jewelry
designs have perhaps graced more Toronto Ramp Shows than any
other Canadian designer. Irene's work was selected by the Australian
Fashion Council in the 1980's to accompany a world wide tour
of Australian Designer Fashions. Irene's Toronto home became
a local institution known for her elegant cocktail and dinner
parties. Following a valiant, swift and difficult fight with
Colorectal Cancer, Irene died in her 62nd year at her beloved
lakefront home in Niagara-on-the-Lake with Philip at her side.
Irene's life was celebrated privately by her immediate family.

rose gardener and cook. She was a member of Saint_John's Lutheran
Church and with her husband grew tobacco at R.R.#5, Aylmer for
many years. Friends may call at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home,
Aylmer on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where prayers will be held
on Wednesday at 7: 00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at
the Saint_John's Lutheran Church, Aylmer on Thursday, April 6,
2006 at 11: 00 a.m. Interment, Delhi Cemetery. Rev. Henriette
