LOUGHEED,
Marguerite
Grace (née
McINTOSH)
Suddenly Wednesday morning, June 7th, 2006 at her residence.
Marguerite was born in Staples, Ontario. She taught school in
Windsor, assisting her husband who held the position of Manager
of the Morris Funeral Home and Flower Shops, during her off hours.
It was during this period that Marguerite received her training
in the flower business. In 1952 Gerry and Marguerite founded
the Lougheed Funeral Home, Flower Shop and Ambulance Service
in Sudbury. She continued teaching in Sudbury until their business
required her presence full time. The teaching profession had
always been foremost in her heart and recently she attended the
55th reunion of her graduating class in London. For many years
she held the Directorship with Toronto's Humber College Retail
Floriculture Board and also was a Director on Cambrian College's
Floral Programme. Marguerite had been actively involved with
the Rotary Club of Sudbury through her husband's many positions
in that organization including their years as President and District
Governor. One of the highlights of this time was their trip around
the world as District Governor. Her support of him in his many
endeavours with Saint_John Ambulance, Salvation Army, Sudbury and
District Children's Aid Society, The John Howard Society, St. Charles
Alumni Foundation and The Ontario Society for Crippled Children
(now The Easter Seal Society) culminated in his achievement of
Knight of the Order of Saint_John in 1990 in Ottawa - a proud moment
for both and one shared with each other. Marguerite and Gerry
were Honourary Chairs of the Older Adult Centre in Sudbury and
remain actively interested in its success. Marguerite was a remarkable
woman whose love of life inspired all she met. Her values reflected
her faith in God and strong commitment as she would say, 'to
do the right thing' in life. Her work ethic was inspired by the
standard of success that you always did your best and therefore
always be proud of what you did. The focus of her life was her
family. She was happiest when hosting family dinners, sharing
family stories and reminding everyone that the best blessing
in all our lives is the love of family members. Her extended
family included the staff at Lougheeds, relatives, neighbours
and Friends in the communities of Sudbury and Essex-Kent Counties
who will remember her internal and external beauty and genuine
interest in their well being. In the dark sky of this sudden
sadness her light will continue to shine brightly guiding, encouraging
and inspiring her loving family and Friends on their life's journeys.
