Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 17th, 2006 in her 88th year. Dear mother of Marilyn (Gerald) SCACE of Durham, Gail (Frank) NEUMANN of British Columbia, Eric of Tobermory and Vivian (Eric) VON DUNGERN of Wiarton. She will be sadly missed by five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, brother John (Millie) PAYNE and sisters Estelle GREENWOOD and Shirley HACKETT. Bernice was a Leader for many years for the Girl Guides in Owen Sound. The family will receive Friends at the George Funeral Home, Wiarton on Friday, May 19th from 7: 00 to 9:00 p.m. where the service to celebrate Bernice's life will be held on Saturday, May 20th at 2: 00 p.m. with Rev. Jawn KOLOHON officiating. Interment Desboro Cemetery. Donations in Bernice's memory to Friends of Gateway or 100 Huntley Street would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy. At West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Grimsby on Wednesday March 22, 2006. Dorothy VON WUTHENAU of Beamsville, aged 68 years. Beloved wife of Klaus (Nick) and dear mother of Hubert and Janet VON WUTHENAU of London, Mick and Elisha VON WUTHENAU of Beamsville, Veronika and Jeremy OVERTON of Oakville and Martin and Shannon VON WUTHENAU of Grimsby. Loving grandmother of Nicholas, Kyra, Zachariah, Anastaisa, Maximilian and Cecilia. Also survived by sister Betty NOVAK of Beamsville and two brothers and three sisters in Europe. Mrs. VON WUTHENAU is at the Tallman Funeral Home, 4998 King Street, Beamsville where the family will receive Friends on Sunday 2-4 and 7-8: 30, with Vigil at 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Helen's Church, Maple Grove Road, Beamsville on Monday, March 27 at 11: 00 a.m. with cremation to follow. Born in Solothurn, Switzerland, Charlotte passed away peacefully on March 23rd, 2006 in her 87th year. Wife of the late Walter Ernest ZUPPINGER. Mother of Ernie ZUPPINGER (Dieta), Walter ZUPPINGER (Min Yan) and Charlotte MUDGE (Graham.) Grandmother of Anthony (Lori) ZUPPINGER, Marcus ZUPPINGER, Max and Zoey ZUPPINGER. Her work as Textile Conservator at the Royal Ontario Museum was her great pride and joy. The family will receive Friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home - A.W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, March 31st. The memorial service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, April 1st at 1 o'clock. Died suddenly and peacefully at the Royal Victoria Hospital on October 14th, 2006 at the age of eighty-five. She will be sadly missed by her only daughter Cornelia NIHON (née VON ARRONET,) son-in-law Alexis NIHON and her grandchildren, Sophia, Alexis, Philip and Julia. She will also be remembered by many relatives in Germany and Canada. Many thanks to Friends Martha, Andreas and Kariann for their devotion in caring for Hildegard during her months of illness. Special thanks to Ingrid for her help in restoring Hildegard's mobility for a brief but very cherished period of time. Hildegard will be remembered for her strength of character, generosity of spirit and her unwavering commitment to those she loved and cared for. A memorial service will be held at the McGill Chapel, 3520 University Street, Montreal, on Thursday October 26th at 5 p.m., followed by a reception for family and Friends. 80 rebels, 1838 -- Died This Day
At the end of the four-day Battle of the Windmill near Prescott, Ontario, in November, 1838, 80 rebels led by Nils VON SCHOULTZ had lost their lives. The rebels belonged to a secret hunters' lodge from New York that had plotted to overthrow the Crown and set up a republic in Upper Canada in the aftermath of the Upper Canada Rebellion. In all, about 140 rebels were taken prisoner. VON SCHOULTZ, a Finnish-born soldier of fortune who had fought in the Polish revolution of 1830, and 10 others were hanged. The remainder were transported to a penal colony in Tasmania. The British and Canadian losses in the battle were put at 16.

It is with a deep sense of respect and love that we announce the death of our father Ross on Wednesday December 6, 2006, in his ninety-eighth year. Loving husband of the late Kathleen for sixty years. Dear father of Marilyn C.N.D. (Cameroon, Africa), Catherine, Carol, Janice (OMELON) and Mary Jane (COCHRANE). Father-in-law of Doctor Jerry OMELON and Brian COCHRANE. Grandfather of Patricia (Michael HAYWARD) and Michael O'BRIEN (Melissa CROFT,) Stephen (Julie KRAEMER) and Cathy BARBETTA, Sidney and Christopher OMELON, and Jennifer and Bradley COCHRANE. Great-grandfather of Tristan and James HAYWARD and Sydney and Ryan James BARBETTA. An avid golfer, Ross was the longest standing member at York Downs Golf and Country Club.
