REJMINIAK, George Peter (February 12, 1950-July 1, 2006)
On Saturday morning, George died peacefully at home, surrounded by the dogs and cat he loved and in the loving embrace of his partner and best friend, Lisa McCASKELL. Predeceased by his parents, Cecylia and Victor REJMINIAK. Beloved father of Adrian REJMINIAK and grandfather of Jessica; cherished brother of Barbara McCARTNEY (Derek) and David REJMINIAK (Leslie.) George will be greatly missed by nieces Kimberley McCARTNEY (Rick,) Rebecca McCARTNEY (Chad,) Kelly TREGGALLES, Kate and Stephanie REJMINIAK and great-niece Sierra McCARTNEY. He is remembered fondly by aunts, uncles and cousins in London and Poznan, Poland. George was a long-time member of the Ironworkers, Local 721 and he could proudly point to dozens of buildings in Toronto and southern Ontario that he worked on, including the C.N. Tower and the Eaton Centre. In mid-life, he fulfilled a life-long ambition and returned to university, graduating with a law degree. He was called to the Bar in 1990. For 16 years he worked as a litigator for the Ontario Nurses' Association where he practised in a number of capacities. He had a keen interest in human rights and litigated important cases dealing with disability and accommodation. George had an enormous appetite for life and in the last 11 years he travelled widely with his partner Lisa, became an avid scuba diver and a superb renovator and builder in their small Riverdale house. He fought his illness bravely and never stopped making plans for just one more trip, right until the end. But when the end came close, he accepted it with grace and dignity. George will be missed by many. Friends will be received at the Sherrin Funeral Home, 873 Kingston Road (west of Victoria Park Ave.) Toronto (416-698-2861) on Tuesday, July 4, 2006 from 5-9 p.m. and on Wednesday, July 5, 2006 from 10 a.m. until time of Service beginning at 11 a.m. in the funeral home Chapel.
