AWAD,
George
Anis, (F.R.C.P.C)
George AWAD passed away in peace on May 25, 2007 after a courageous
battle with heart failure. A devoted husband, father, physician,
and friend, George leaves behind a world he lived to help. He
is survived by his wife Macy and children Melia and Tarek, who
hold him in love and remembrance in their hearts and minds. Born
in Acre, Palestine, George completed his degree in Medicine at
the American University of Beirut, and continued with his Psychiatry
and Child Psychiatry training at the University of Rochester
and the University of Michigan respectively. Following his relocation
to Toronto, George completed his training in Psychoanalysis at
the Toronto Institute of Psychoanalysis. He became a Staff Psychiatrist
at the Family Court Clinic, Clark Institute of Psychiatry, where
he later served as Director. George also became a Staff Psychiatrist
with the Infant Psychiatry Program at the Hospital for Sick Children.
While maintaining his private practice in Psychoanalysis and
Forensic Child Psychiatry he remained a devoted academician and
scholar who, throughout his distinguished career, held both academic
and clinical positions as Associate Professor of Psychiatry at
the University of Toronto, and as a Training and Supervising
Psychoanalyst at the Canadian Institute of Psychoanalysis in
Toronto. Doctor
AWAD was instrumental in promoting the education
of teachers and others working with underprivileged children
in various Non-governmental Organizations in Lebanon, and was
a member of several groups who worked and lectured for resolution
and peace between Palestinians and Israelis. He was a constant
advocate for peace, tolerance, and understanding. During the
last years and until the last days of his life, George remained
devoted to his private Psychoanalytic practice. George
AWAD was
dedicated to his medical career, but he was also a scholar, an
activist, and a leader. He was a man who lived to help others,
who gave to his family all of his self, and will be remembered
for his kind, compassionate, courageous soul. However, nothing
defined him more clearly than his love for his family. Doctor George
AWAD will be remembered on Wednesday May 30, 2007 at 1: 00 p.m.
at Humphrey's Funeral Home, 1403 Bayview Avenue, Toronto. In
lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the George Awad
Memorial Scholarship Fund, established to send a student to the
American University of Beirut. An account will be opened at the
Toronto Dominion Bank of Canada.
