A Bachelors of Arts graduate of the University of Alberta in
1942, Joan spent her married life in Edmonton, Calgary and Thornhill,
Ontario and was active in many volunteer activities including
the University Women's Club (President of North York Chapter),
Consumer's Association of Canada (Toronto), Ontario Golf Association
(where she taught the rules of golf and assisted in organizing
tournaments) and Living and Learning in Retirement at York University
(President for 2 years). A long time member of York Downs Golf
Club, she served on the Club's Board of Directors for 4 years
and as president of the ladies section. Her passions in life
included bridge, golf, gardening and travel, whether to experience
new far-flung destinations, or to visit Friends and family in
Western Canada, Israel or Japan. Her enthusiasm for life was
hard to keep up with, and even at 86, she was a bundle of energy,
always concerned about looking after her family and Friends before
herself. Friends will be recieved at Highland Funeral HomeMarkham
Chapel (northeast corner of 16th avenue and 404) on Monday from
2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service on Tuesday October 16th at 10: 00 a.m.
in the funeral home chapel. Interment at Elgin Mills Cemetery.

Peacefully,
with her family by her side, at home in Markham. Predeceased
by her husband George Duncan. Beloved mother of Chris (Bradley
SUTTON), Elizabeth (Leslie
IWATA), David (Jane), Peter and Robert
(Sandra). Cherished Granny of Sarah, Ty, Amanda, Michelle, Sam,
Lucy and Jac. Proudly served with the British Security Co-ordination
in New York, Washingon D.C. and
at Camp X during World War 2.
We will always remember her strength, love and guidance. In lieu
of flowers, donations to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of
Canada would be appreciated by the family. Funeral Services to
be held at Highland Funeral Home, Markham Chapel, 10 Cachet Woods
Court, Markham (north east corner of 16th Avenue and the 404),
at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2007. Interment at Littlewood
Cemetery, near Ilderton, Ontario, at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 7,
