They are very thankful to have spent their lives with such a strong, caring, woman who celebrated each day by surrounding herself with her most precious family and Friends. Loving wife of the late Keith RATCLIFFE (1998.) Devoted mother of Lynne (Bill) SHERIDAN, Don (Kim) RATCLIFFE, Al (Elaine) RATCLIFFE and Carol (Paul) CHAPMAN. Elsie was a wonderful "Nana" to her grandchildren Christine (Kent) GUY, Lynne (Joe) BROPHY, Teresa RATCLIFFE, Caitie, Jace, Landon, Keaton and Isaac RATCLIFFE, and Erin and Leah CHAPMAN. On April 18, 2008, at Longworth Nursing Home with family at her side, just short of her 98th birthday after a long and fulfilling life. Born in Burlington, Ontario, she was the only daughter of the late Elizabeth and John RAE. Beloved▼ wife of the late Francis J. "Peter" McPETRIE. Predeceased by her brothers, Donald RAE (Dorothy,) Mississauga and Edgar RAE (Emma,) Ottawa, and sister-in law Elizabeth "Betty" MATHESON (Murdoch " Bud,") London, and nephew Eugene RAE, Toronto. Fondly remembered by her nieces Nancy RAE, Edmonton, Penny KEYES (Bob), Ottawa, and Susan GARRINGTON (Brian,) Cathy ELLEFSEN (David,) her grandnieces Cathy BROPHY (David,) Jacqueline and Julie ELLEFSEN and great-grandnephew Daniel BROPHY, all of London, Ontario. Remembered also by her cousins and many Friends. Dorothy graduated in 1932 from Victoria College, University of Toronto, in French and classics. After graduation, she taught secondary school in Paris, Ontario, until her marriage in 1941. She worked for the Bank of Montreal in Toronto after her marriage and through the war years. Subsequently, she and her husband Peter, an accountant with the Bank of Montreal, enjoyed his various postings with the Bank throughout southwestern Ontario. During her life, Dorothy pursued her interests in painting (founding member of the Lambeth Art Society), travel, gardening, music and watching golf. She will be remembered for her great love of family and her passion for reading and crossword puzzles. On behalf of Dorothy, the family would like to thank the staff at the Ashwood Retirement Residence, Lambeth and the Longworth Nursing Home, London, for their wonderful care and support. BROPHY, A.D. "Dan"
At 85 years of age, on December 28, 2007, at Sudbury Regional Hospital, of cancer. Dan will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his surviving family: his daughter Lynn, his sisters Alice and Patricia, his brother Larry, his many nieces and nephews, their children, and their children's children. Dan was pre-deceased by his son, Michael, and his brothers, Philip and Patrick. Dan will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wonderful neighbours and Friends in his adopted city of Sudbury, including many children for whom he was a beloved uncle and/or grandfather. This warm community was the centre of his life over the last 40 years. After retiring from teaching at Cambrian College, Dan maintained connections with a group of other retired faculty. A mathematician, photographer and inventor, Dan loved music, philosophy, art, and the challenges of building his own house. He had an enormous curiosity, love of ideas, and enthusiasm for exploring just about everything. Giving back to his community was important to Dan. He was involved for many years in Big Brothers of Sudbury, making Friendships there that lasted a lifetime. A memorial service to honour Dan will be held in Sudbury at a later date. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Hildegard (KUCK) BROSS who peacefully passed away on July 8th, 2008. Hildegard born November 4th, 1930 in Eschweiler, Germany came to Canada in 1952 following her high school sweetheart and husband, the late Erwin BROSS. Caring mother of Roy BROSS, the late Beatrice Bollian, Klaus BROSS, and Gabriela COSTELLO. Beloved grandmother of Crystal and Candis BROSS, Chantal, Andreas and Axel BOLLIAN, Tyler and Benjamin BROSS, and Jessica and Tanya COSTELLO. A generous and compassionate woman to everyone, Hildegard will be remembered and greatly missed. Visitation in the Lloyd R. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Joseph (Joe) J. GARDINER, 80 years, at Fiddick's Nursing Home, Petrolia on Friday, May 2, 2008. Joe was born and raised in Petrolia and spent much of his life in Bright's Grove. He was predeceased by his first wife Gayle RICHMOND (1967) and is survived by his wife Mary Jean GARDINER (née PRITCHARD) and three children, Michael GARDINER (Glenn CRANE) of Sarnia, Patrick GARDINER (Karan) of Sharon, Ontario and Andrea BROSSOIT (Stu) of Lucan, four grandchildren, Sean and Sarah GARDINER and Emily and Michael BROSSOIT. Joe is also survived by one sister Gertrude RAWLINGS of Burlington, a sister-in-law, Margaret GARDINER of London, a brother-in-law Bill PRITCHARD (Joyce) of Petrolia, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by a brother George and two sisters Gladys SCHOLTE and Bette ELLIOT/ELLIOTT. Joe retired from Polysar after 37 years and spent his retirement enjoying his home. He developed a great love of music and played the trombone from his early childhood. He was a member of the Petrolia White Rose Band, the Art Christmas Concert Band, Jack Kennedy's Dance Band and several other groups. McLAREN, KEN
Ken McLAREN, one of this area's well-known and respected residents, passed away on Thursday, April 17 as the result of a heart attack. Ken was in his 84th year. He was a retired farmer, he was a loving uncle, a treasured neighbour and friend.
Kenneth, son of George and Alice McLAREN was born June 16, 1924 and spent most of his life working the family farm in Melancthon Township. He and his brother Delmar purchased the farm from their father George upon his retirement in 1972 Upon Ken's retirement in 1986 he moved into Dundalk on Victoria Street, and following his mother's passing moved to the Highview apartment in Dundalk in 1998.
Ken's daily routine would not be complete without going to the Junction Restaurant in the morning for coffee, playing cards at the card room and visiting Friends, relatives and neighbours. He enjoyed going to auction sales with cousin Carol and Ernie HAWTON. He was an avid euchre player and loved to go to the Bingo. Ken always supported and looked forward to attending community events such as the Firemen's Frolic, Dundalk Fair Honeywood Barbecue suppers, Dundalk Town Hall Theatre, Pepper Tournaments and Turkey Rolls at the Lions Club. He was also a member of the Dundalk Young at Heart Club. He enjoyed sports especially baseball and hockey. He would always attend local hockey games of cousins and great nephews.
Ken joins in eternal rest his parents, George and Alice McLAREN, brothers Wilbert, McKinley and Delmar and sisters Muriel NEVILLE and Blanche O'CONNOR, niece Donalda MILNE and nephew Grant NEVILLE.
Ken is survived by nieces Paulette RYAN, St. Catharines, Janice WEBSTER, Dundalk, Linda MacDONALD, Georgetown and Heather VERPAALEN, Laurel and nephews Gordon, Oakville and David McLAREN, Stratford, and great nephews Albert, Grant and Frank MILNE, Thomas and Dillon Ryan, Elliott and Jonathan McLAREN, Zack and Gage VERPAALEN, Conner and great niece Kaylee McLAREN.
The service was conducted by Mark DAVIDSON, minister of the Erskine Presbyterian Church who provided comforting words and prayers to the family and Friends. Music included, Praise My Soul the King of Heaven, What a Wonderful World and Go Rest High on that Mountain. Don PATTON played Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.
The pallbearers were Brian BROSTER, David, Elliott and Jonathan McLAREN, Thomas RYAN and Lynn KEATING. Honourary pallbearers were Harvey CLARKE, Ernie HAWTON, Mac McLAREN, Grant PRESTON, Bob SCOTT, Vern SAINT_JOHN and Ivan WILTSHIRE.
Interment was in Badjeros Cemetery.
Following the committal service at Badjeros, Friends were invited to the Erskine Presbyterian Church in Dundalk for refreshments and a time to visit. The lunch was provided by the ladies of the church.
Ken will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by many Friends, relatives and neighbours. To have been part of his life was truly an honour and a blessing.
God now has you in His hands, we will always have you in our hearts.

Born in Tantallon, Saskatchewan, Esther grew up in Prince Albert and Wynyard. She graduated from Saskatoon Normal School and taught school in Aneroid before meeting Harold at Dafoe. They married in 1944 and soon moved to Toronto, where they resided on Tyrrell Avenue and then Inglewood Drive. Proud of her Icelandic heritage, she and Harold were staunch supporters of the Icelandic Canadian Club of Toronto. They were avid curlers at the Granite Club and enjoyed family summers at Balsam Lake, and skiing at Limberlost and Summit. For many years she volunteered as a teacher's assistant at inner city schools, and as a teacher of English as a Second Language. Esther was a long time member of Timothy Eaton Memorial Church and an enthusiastic participant in its Community Service Club.

He will be sadly missed by all his family in Canada and the United Kingdom. He is survived by his wife Rosemary, son P.J., mother Betty and his brothers Richard and Christopher. He will be especially remembered by his nephews and nieces Lindsay, Bobby, Simon, Eric, Peter and Jen. Patrick should be remembered for his sharp intellect, wit and wonderful story telling. Wife and friend of 48 years Gladys (née MORRISON,) daughters Jody and son-in-law Daniel BOILEAU (Sechelt, British Columbia), Jennifer and son-in-law Paul BROUWER (London.) " Grampy" to Allison and Thea, his little sweethearts who will miss him dearly. Born in Morcambe, England in 1933, Gerry emigrated to Canada in 1948 with his late parents Jack and Jane SHAW. Survived by siblings Kathleen MacDONALD (Don) of London, Phyllis NEEDHAM (Don ELLIS) of Wasaga Beach, David SHAW (Janet) of Glenwood, Newfoundland. and Anne MUIR (Wilson) of Wasaga Beach. Gerry will be missed by Ross and Louise MORRISON of Mount Forest and Grant and Elsie MORRISON of Courtney, British Columbia. Gerry will also be missed by many nieces and nephews who have fond memories of their summer visits to the cottage. A long time resident of London, Ontario, Gerry moved to the cottage in his retirement after 45 years service at the London Free Press, where he made several lifelong Friends. He was an avid lover of birds and nature, and enjoyed his time spent with Friends and family at Port Franks. Sincere thanks from Gerry's family to Doctor Brian DINGLE and Nancy FULTON at the London Regional Cancer Centre, the nursing staff of C7 300 and Doctor JEJE at Victoria Hospital in London.
