PLANK, James Wilfred
Heard his name on February 29, 2008. His release from earthly pain was welcome and well prepared as his loved ones were gifted with time to acknowledge and share their love and admiration for this first-class man - a gentleman and a scholar, Jim modeled a life of strong Christian values, solid family ideals, and a deep work ethic. His joy was found in his love of the Lord, his lifelong sweetheart, his family, great literature, and fine works of music. Jim had the ability to inspire those around him to rise to greater heights morally, intellectually and spiritually, challenging us all to follow our own paths. His impact was felt by many after 34 years of teaching - many of these at Herman Collegiate Institute in Windsor. And, he lent comfort to many through his years of Pastoral Care in jails and hospitals, and his Elder work in his churches. His careers included selling subscriptions to Liberty magazine as a young boy, reining in run-away horses on his 2nd job as milkman, teaching and volunteering with the Alzheimer Society. Born on October 29, 1930 in London, Ontario, Jim spent most of his school years there before moving with his parents to a farm in Merlin, Ontario. Jim enjoyed a blessed and rich childhood. He will be dearly missed by his sisters Audrey LUMLEY (John,) and Marion WINDELL. He is predeceased by his parents Laura and Fred PLANK, his sister Helen ZANIER and his brother Fredrick PLANK. Jim takes temporary leave from his wife of 53 years, Mildred PLANK and his four children - Cynthia MORRIS, Grant PLANK (Linda PLANK), Amy ROBINSON (Claude ROBINSON) and Jennifer PLANK (Michael WATTS.) He is well loved by his grandchildren: Nicole PLANK, Jennilee PINO (Brad), Benjamin ROBINSON, Andrew MORRIS, Kimberly PLANK (Eduardo), Patrick ROBINSON, Nicholas ROBINSON, Helen WATTS, Dakota ROBINSON, Emma WATTS, Nakita ROBINSON, and his Great-Grandchildren: Lucca CONTE, Amilia PINO, Ella PLANK. Passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, April 10, 2008, in his 87th year at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Ontario. Beloved husband of the late Teresa ZARDINI. Loving father of Anna Maria BUXTON of Boston, Adriano VICENTINI of Mississauga, Bruna DANCE of Peterborough and Enrico VICENTINI of Toronto, and their spouses. Devoted grandfather of Alexander, Raymond, Paul, Nicole, Adrian and Francesca. Cherished greatgrandfather of Frida, Ethan, Julian and Sawyer. Sadly missed by his sisters Bruna VICENTINI of Arzignano, Italy and Edda SPADA of Toronto, as well as his sister-in-law Rita and brother-in-law Piero ZARDINI of Montecchia di Crosara, Verona and by his many nieces and nephews. A fierce litigator who was a 'gentleman'

George GLEZOS dove into lawsuits with intensity, argued with a flourish in court, never uttered a cross word to opponents, sometimes exercised twice a day at his gym and wrote outrageous e-mails.
When the Lerners LLP litigator died suddenly of a brain aneurysm on Sunday at the age of 53, stories circulated quickly about his ferocious appetite for the law, sports and his family.
"He leaves a huge hole and ache in many lives," said his partner Earl CHERNIAK.
In law, Mr. GLEZOS distinguished himself by taking on what his partner Peter JERVIS described as "the steepest and deepest cases." At Lerners, Mr. GLEZOS is remembered for irreverent e-mails.
His favourite e-mail command, Mr. CHERNIAK said, was "reply all."
When a law clerk once sent a firm-wide e-mail asking whether anyone spoke Polish, Mr. GLEZOS hit "reply all" and wrote: "The Pope."
When another Lerners employee sent an e-mail about a new firm policy requiring prior approval for promotional expenses, he replied: "I will be taking 100 clients to Hawaii. It will cost a lot, but it will be worth it as we have been promised a lot of business, which will keep us all employed. Please approve."
One of Mr. GLEZOS' most memorable lawsuits was ultimately lost at the Supreme Court of Canada.
The case was a claim by an investor that few other law firms would tackle because it accused major retailer Danier Leather Inc. of failing to disclose negative sales data at a time when it was selling company shares.
Mr. GLEZOS and Mr. JERVIS won the closely watched case at trial, but it was ultimately overturned in Canada's highest court.
Despite the roller-coaster ride, Danier's lawyer Ben ZARNETT at Goodmans LLP said Mr. GLEZOS never lost his cool.
"George was the kind of lawyer with whom you could litigate a high-stakes case like Danier for years and right up to the Supreme Court without ever exchanging an angry word," Mr. ZARNETT said.
"He was a gentleman."
Paul STEEP at McCarthy Tétrault LLP opposed Mr. GLEZOS in two corporate lawsuits that potentially involved tens of millions of dollars of losses for their respective clients. Although Mr. GLEZOS fought hard in court for his client, Mr. STEEP said the lawyer once patted him on the back after a tough day in court and volunteered that Mr. STEEP would win the case.
"George loved being an advocate and he loved the camaraderie of the bar. Even when he was fighting hard for his client he never forgot that we are all colleagues," Mr. STEEP said.

Suddenly at North York General Hospital on Friday April 4th, 2008 at the age of 55 years. Linda McTEER of New Dundee and formerly of Paisley. Linda was born in Walkerton on March 3rd, 1953 and was raised in Paisley. She was the sixth child of seven of the late Harold and Irene (MOONEY) McTEER. She worked 25 years with the Economical Insurance Company in Kitchener before finishing her insurance career with Hallmark Insurance in Scarborough. In 1980 Linda was appointed guardian of the family of the late John and Marjorie (McTEER) TANNER who are left to mourn her passing: Clifford and Joanne, Jim and Cindi, Connie and her friend Jim STRAUS all of Port Elgin, Carl and Debbie, Cindy SWEIGER, Jeff and Bonnie all of Paisley and all of their children. Predeceased by the youngest Laurie Ann TANNER (1988.) Also left to mourn her passing are her siblings, Gladys and John TURNBALL of Waterloo, Shirley and Bob CURRIE of Paisley, Glen McTEER of London and Rhonda McTEER of Wingham, Keith and Rhonda McTEER of Newmarket. Of Saint Thomas, passed away at the Saint Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, in his 78th year. Beloved husband for 53 years to Betty (née CAIN) McLEOD. Dear uncle of Allan Pat COLLINS (Joanne) of Okotoks, Alberta, Lee Ann JENNINGS (Wesley) of Brampton, Michael ZAVITZ (Christine) of Glencoe, Pat ZAVITZ (Kathy) of Melbourne, and Keith ZAVITZ (Annette) of Strathroy. Also fondly remembered by several great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Predeceased by two sisters, Elinor ZAVITZ and Joan McLEOD (in infancy,) and by a brother, Douglas F. McLEOD. Born in Saint Thomas, November 29, 1930, son of the late Frank and Beatrice (née PATTERSON) McLEOD. Ross lived his life in Saint Thomas and Frome and was a retired employee of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (London District). He was an adherent of Knox Presbyterian Church, Saint Thomas. Relatives and Friends will be received at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington Street, Saint Thomas on Friday evening from 7: 00-8:00 p.m. A private service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday. Interment will be made in Elmdale Memorial Park. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society gratefully acknowledged.

Of Strathroy, died suddenly but peacefully in his home on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the age of 83 years. Married for 60+ years, he lost the love of his life Norma (PRANGLEY) in February 2007. Loving father of Libby (David) SCOTT of Courtright; Ron (Joanne) of Strathroy; Sharon (Archie, 1993) LEWIS of Strathroy; Ken (Sherri) of Kerwood; and Bruce (Wendy) of St. George. Proud grandpa of Matthew, Erin (Alan) and Laura SCOTT; Becky (Shay), Monica (Dave) and Jill (John) ZAVITZ; Kim (Greg), Denise (Jeremy) and Pam LEWIS Chandra, Bryce and Madison ZAVITZ; and Jenna and Klae ZAVITZ. Great-grandpa of Jesse, Dylan and Jayden KNIGHT; Sarah and Lindsay VERBERNE; and Abigail ROBERTSON. Dad lived life to the fullest each and every day of his life. He enjoyed volunteering for the Poplar Hill Lions Club and working at Cuddy's for many years. WHITING, Carl
It is with sadness that the family of Carl WHITING announces his passing on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the C.E.E. Hospital of Bluewater Health in Petrolia. Carl was 73. Beloved husband of 52 years to Ferne (née BROADBENT,) also of Petrolia. Dear father of Connie and Rod BRAY of London, and their children Sarah and Siobhan, Terry and Maryanne WHITING of Winnipeg, and their children Willyn, Angus, Holly and Duncan, Howard and Collette WHITING of Shelburne, and their children Daniel, Stephanie and Lindsay, Joel and Donna WHITING of Oil Springs and their children Emma and Neil, and Becky and Derrick FULTON of Oil Springs, and their children Kaegan and Ronan. Carl was the eldest of 11 children born to Howard (1960) and Blanche (2000) WHITING. Predeceased by a brother Frank (1967) and a sister Shirley ZAVITZ (2006.) Carl is survived by four brothers: Ray (Marilyn) of Oil Springs, Gordon (Bernice), Les (Karen), and Ross (Lindy) all of Petrolia and four sisters Marian (Joe KERWIN,) Gloria (Jim) MATTHEWS of Sarnia, Grace (Charlie BRIMLEY) of Ottawa and Wilma WHITING of Bowmanville, numerous nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, Audrey FARR of Oil Springs and a brother-in-law, Cliff ZAVITZ of Camlachie. Carl was a retiree of Polysar and was also a Lambton County farmer. Friends and family will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Needham-Jay Funeral Home, Petrolia. The funeral service will be held at New Life Assembly, Oozloffsky Street, Petrolia, on Monday, June 2, 2008 at 11: 00 a.m. Interment in Oil Springs Cemetery.
