AVRITH,
Ernest
Our hearts are broken by the loss of our father, grandfather
and husband, Ernest
AVRITH who died peacefully, surrounded by
his family at home on Tuesday, January 8, 2008. Beloved husband
of Marilyn
SILVERMAN for 59 years. Loving and devoted father
and father-in-law of Gale
AVRITH and Nadim
WAKEAM,
Douglas and
Pilar AVRITH,
Heather
AVRITH and William
ROSENBERG. Cherished
grandfather of Elliot, Kira and Alex
WAKEAM;
Natasha
AVRITH and
Eric TOMAN, Samuel, Nita, Harry and Leticia
AVRITH; Arlene and
David ROSENBERG.
Loving great-grandfather of Alexa and Sean
TOMAN.
He is remembered as the President of Yellow Shoes which pioneered
the idea of low cost self-serve retail stores. He grew the company
from 10 stores to one of the largest shoe chains in Quebec. His
brilliance as a stylist and his creative genius at retailing
helped Yellow become one of the most successful shoe chains in
the country and he was known as a leader in the shoe industry.
Yellow was so much a part of Quebec culture that one of the three
major characters in the play "Broue", a satirical look at working
class life in Quebec, was a Yellow store manager.
In the latter part of his life his major challenge was his health
and he met it with the same optimism, courage and spirit that
he poured into his business.
He was a major benefactor of the Marilyn and Ernest Avrith Liver
Transplant Clinic at the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Beth
Jacob Teacher's College, Montreal.
Funeral service from Paperman and Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W.
on Friday, January 11 at 11: 00 a.m. Burial at Congregation Shaar
Hashomayim Cemetery, Mt. Royal Blvd. Shiva at 4350 Sherbrooke
St. W. #610, Westmount, Quebec, evening services at 7: 30 p.m.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the "Marilyn and Ernest
Avrith Liver Transplant Clinic" c/o the Royal Victoria Hospital
