JANSEN--In loving memory of Michael
JANSEN who left us for Heaven on February 7, 2003.
"Be still and know that I am God." Psalm 46: 10
This week we walked across the snow,
To visit a gravestone the children know.
They brushed the snow off so they could see
The words and the pictures under the big tree.
We stood and talked in our memory spot
Of how we miss our loved one with every thought.
How precious to know he is with God above,
So we softly sing of Jesus' love.
Five years have gone both slow and fast
Each family member treasures memories of the past.
God gives us strength to move on each day
And with joy we watch the children laugh and play.
Forever we will miss Michael's shy, quick smile
But know we will meet again after a while.
God brings us comfort as in His Word we see
"I am the Lord that healeth thee." Exodus 15: 26
With thanks to God for lending us our Michael for twenty-three years.

BAROOTES,
Ann
(January 31, 1932-April 22, 2008)
Ann BAROOTES of Markham, Ontario, beloved wife of Gus
BAROOTES,
passed away peacefully on April 22nd, 2008 due to complications
stemming from cancer. Ann moved to Toronto in 1949, a city she
loved from the start. Toronto proved a fitting backdrop to a
graceful life filled with travel and curiosity. She married Gus
in late 1950's. They were the perfect match in tennis, wit and
verbal sparing. With Ann you learned quickly to always pay attention
and take nothing personal; the fleeting twinkle in her eye revealed
her true intentions and they were always filled with love, compassion
and humor. As a younger woman she modeled fashion in Toronto.
Ann's glamorous and dignified bearing stayed true throughout
her life. There was nothing casual about her. She took great
care in presenting herself with appropriate and interesting taste,
but she did so modestly. Her dress and comportment harmonized
with a disciplined and independent mind. She chose her words
carefully and they always meant something, but she also possessed
the uncanny ability to know what not to say. Hers was a life
not governed just by any one interest. She was raised on a farm
and as an adult grew asparagus, traveled extensively throughout
the world and stood on an Alaskan glacier at age 75. She loved
singing, her Ukrainian roots and never felt any need to justify
or explain the life she lived. Her stories and innocent jokes
brought family together. Family was most important to Ann and
she overflowed with generosity and Friendship. Her sharp memory
filled in the gaps from the past for even those much younger
than her. She remembered everything and everyone. We hold her
in our memory as she held us in life. Ann is predeceased by her
loving husband Gus
BAROOTES, her siblings; Bill
SASHUK,
Neda
NELSON, Fred

Ann is survived by her brother Fred

From far, from eve and morning
And yon twelve-winded sky,
The stuff of life to knit me
Blew hither: here am I.
Now -- for a breath I tarry
Nor yet disperse apart --
Take my hand quick and tell me,
What have you in your heart.
Speak now, and I will answer
How shall I help you, say
Ere to the wind's twelve quarters
I take my endless way.

Police hunt doctor's killer
Woodstock native Henry Janssen was found shot dead in his truck
near Lion's Head.
By Patrick
MALONEY, Sun Media, Fri., January 25, 2008
A longtime Woodstock doctor whose body was found in his truck
along an isolated road in Bruce County was shot to death, police
confirmed last night, sparking the hunt for a killer.
Dr. Henry JANSSEN, a Woodstock native who practised family medicine
in Ingersoll and in his hometown for years before moving to Bruce
County, was found in the parked truck Tuesday night, not far
from the small Lion's head hospital he helped run.
"I don't know why anybody would want to do this," said Herman
JANSSEN, his brother.
"It's like we're… living in a movie."
Police describe the site where the 57-year-old family doctor
was found -- Scenic Caves Road in Northern Bruce Peninsula --
as a "quiet, isolated rural area."
An autopsy in London yesterday confirmed a gunshot wound as the
cause of death, Bruce Ontario Provincial Police said.
Investigators were saying little, but had been handing out notices
to drivers passing through, asking to speak with anyone who saw
parked cars or pedestrians in the area between noon and 9 p.m.
Tuesday.
Last night, police said they believe "community safety is not
an associated concern," suggesting that
JANSSEN may not have
been a random victim.
One of 10 children,
JANSSEN was a star football player at Woodstock
Collegiate Institute and played tight end for the University
of Western Ontario Mustangs in 1972 and '73. In 1974, he was
drafted third overall in the Canadian Football League draft,
by Calgary.
In a Free Press interview shortly after the draft,
JANSSEN said
he was interested in going to medical school.
A brother, Hans, spent 26 years as the London Catholic school
board's recreation supervisor. He died of cancer in 2004 and
the board's track championship was named in his honour.
For the last five years,
JANSSEN treated patients on the Bruce
Peninsula and most recently served as site chief for small hospitals
in Lion's head and Tobermory, both part of Grey Bruce Health
Services.
His colleagues expressed shock at his death and support for his
wife, Lynn, and children, Rebecca and David.
"To say it will be difficult to move forward without him is an
understatement," Doctor Ken
PRITCHARD said in a statement. "We will
carry on his good work as he would want us to do, but our world
will never be quite the same without him."
Members of the small community were stunned by the death.
"It's a tragedy," said Helen
WESTOVER, a teacher. "He was a wonderful
guy."
Former patients from around Oxford County were stunned at the
news of JANSSEN's death.
Coyla Jean
REEVES and her family were longtime patients of
JANSSEN.
"He was an altogether likable fellow," she said. "If you wanted
to joke with him, you could. He had a sense of humour."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Bruce Ontario Provincial
Police at 519-534-1323 or through the Ontario Provincial Police
communications centre, 1-888-310-1122.
