KEEGAN,
John
Ronald
(July 11, 1932 To January 20, 2008)
To measure a Man… Is to sum up his accomplishments in but a few
simple phrases. Those whose impact was greatest on family and
Friends tend to need fewer songs of praise. Dad always knew there
was another chance to change an outcome. Growing up the eldest
of 5, with precious few amenities, he learned to effect situations
through force of will. Above all else he understood the value
of family and revelled in all our accomplishments great and small.
He loved talking about his family, a clean car, a good hockey
fight, the market and the colour yellow. Always well dressed,
he respected others who took care of their first impression
shined shoes and well tied ties were a quick gauge to your worth.
Setting the tone for any situation he added flair when none existed.
When we attended hockey games he refereed we always remembered
never to tell the fans our Dad was the referee and we'll never
forget the police escorts after junior games in Greenfield Park
and St. Lambert. He loved his business and as a Trader his execution
was legendary, He knew how to make a pro short a position on
his bid and be grateful. He never liked to politic, but knew
it so well he taught us to taunt the sharks we swim with in whatever
waters we may find ourselves. His greatest accomplishment was
that his children assumed their successes without doubt. With
great sorrow, much love and admiration he will be deeply missed
and always remembered by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years
Beverley (née
RANDLE,) daughter Deborah; sons Michael and wife
Joanne (née

BORDA,
Doctor
Ivan
T. (1922-2008)
One of the outstanding members of the London medical community,
the former head of the gastroenterology department at St Joseph's
Hospital,
Doctor
Ivan
BORDA, passed away at the age of 85, on April 19th
2008 at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital, following a heart attack.
He is deeply mourned by his wife Joyce, stepchildren Jeffrey
HAFELFINGER and Caroline and Peter
KRESTA, grandchildren Gregory
and Alice and a large number of Friends and colleagues. He had
an adventurous life, graduating from medicine in 1951 in Budapest,
his birthplace, then serving as a physician in the Hungarian
Army, seeing the inside of a communist prison on trumped up charges,
emigrating to Canada after the 1956 revolution, finishing his
training in internal medicine, gastroenterology and pharmacology
in London and Boston.. He was a superb physician and an early
expert in epidemiological pharmacology, pioneering the research
in adverse event monitoring and clinical trials methodology.
He had a triple career: in addition to being appointed as a consultant
gastroenterologist at Saint_Joseph's Hospital in 1963, he worked
for the World Health Organization in Geneva and as consultant
in the pharmaceutical industry in Switzerland. In 1981 he returned
to Europe (Switzerland) and divided his time between Basel, consulting
for the pharmaceutical industry, and Geneva, where he did much
extremely rewarding work for World Health Organization primarily
in third world countries. He was fiercely patriotic towards Canada,
and always grateful to have been given a home here when he was
stateless, returning therefore to Canada in 1990, first to Ottawa
and then Cambridge still doing occasional work for World Health
Organization until 1995. He was an inveterate globetrotter, knowing
a great deal about people and places and a cultured man, a lover
of opera, theater, fine dining, tennis and soccer. He had the
bearing, style and courtly manner of a Hungarian aristocrat,
yet he was a generous and warm friend, a raconteur and witty
conversationalist who easily earned the love and respect of all
who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his
name to the Saint_Joseph's Hospital Foundation.

DROINE,
William "
Bill"
Mr.
William
(Bill)
DROINE, age 87, resident of Thunder Bay, passed
away peacefully with his family by his side at Grandview Lodge
January 23, 2008, after a brief illness. Bill was born October 2,
1920 in Port Arthur, attended Central School and graduated from
P.A.T.S. (Hillcrest High School). He proudly served in the Royal
Canadian Navy during World War 2 on the corvette HMCS Camrose.
In 1946, he married the love of his life, Ollie
KINASCHUK and
they settled in Port Arthur to raise their family. Bill worked
at Canadian Car and Foundry for 21 years and then for Vercival
and Company, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Royal Canadian
Legion and the Elks. After the loss of his beloved wife Ollie
in 1992, Bill lived independently in his own home until his move
to Grandview Lodge in November 2007. Our Dad was happiest when
he was with his family, whether it was walking in the bush looking
for mushrooms, blueberry picking, fishing, Sunday picnics, or
playing hockey on the backyard rink with his three children.
In his later years, he kept a regular routine of exercising on
his stationary bike, doing sit-ups and watching Star Trek and
Bluejay and Leaf games on television. He was an avid reader and
believed in the importance of a higher education. In 1993, his
twin granddaughters Kim and Michelle were born. 'Grampa' was
extremely proud of all their accomplishments and his face lit
up whenever they visited him or he spoke of them. Our Dad loved
playing crib, and when he could no longer see all those 15-2's,
he played a modified version with his 'coach' son-in-law Bill
where they 'beat the board' the last game they played on January 22.
Dad was predeceased by his wife Ollie in 1992, his parents Feydor
and Lena DRAGANIUK and older brother Steve. He will be deeply
missed by his son Bob (Linda) Owen Sound, son Bill (Mary Jane
FINLAYSON)
Toronto, daughter Corinne (Bill)
KREZONOSKI and granddaughters

Lodge (F wing) for their exceptional care and compassion during
our Dad's stay.
