James 'Jim'
GRIMES, 75, of Toronto, Ontario, Epsilon Omicron,
Sigma Chi, and U.W.O. 1957 entered the Chapter Eternal on Saturday
April 5, 2008. Jim was born in Elora, Ontario on November 9,
1932. He attended school in Elora and Ingersoll, graduating from
the University of Western in 1957. He worked for a short period
for Canadian National Railway in Montreal then moved to Toronto
where he was employed at a senior level of the Ontario Government
until he retired. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Ida Mary
and Christopher Ernest
GRIMES, and his sisters Kathleen
CUNNINGHAM
and Mary SWORD. He is survived by Brothers-in-law, Peter
SWORD,
Burlington, Washington, and John
CUNNINGHAM,
Sarnia,
Ontario,
and many nieces and nephews and their families across Canada
and the United States. Jim had a special close relationship with
his nephew Doug
CUNNINGHAM of Sarnia who provided comfort, companionship
and aid to Jim in the last few months before his death. Jim traveled
abroad extensively until his handicap required him to use a motorized
wheel chair and scooter, He was a prominent figure in the Annex
area around his home on Tranby Avenue, sporting his favourite
Fisherman's cap, driving his scooter adorned with a large Canadian
flag on shopping forays. His backyard annual Canada Day celebrations
became the social event of the year for Tranby Avenue residents.
Jim's wishes were that no funeral service or memorial be held.
Jim's ashes will be placed with his parents at the Harris Street
Cemetery, Ingersoll, Ontario. Jim's true love was Sigma Chi Fraternity,
He organized the restoration of the Varah Library in the Chapter
House in London and served as House Corp, President, He was an
active Director, Secretary and Chair of the Scholarship Committee
of Sigma Chi Canadian Foundation. In 2006 he was awarded the
Order of Constantine, the highest honour attainable for service
to Sigma Chi. Jim's courage and indomitable spirit were an inspiration
to his countless Sigma Chi brothers who will remember him as
one possessed of the qualities of good character and morals,
responsibility, a high sense of honour and a spirit of congeniality.
