Died peacefully at Georgian Heights, Owen Sound on Thursday, July 3, 2008. Betty STEPHEN (née LYNCH) formerly of Chesley, in her 83rd year. Beloved wife of the late John STEPHEN. Loving mother of Glenna REILLY of Owen Sound and Eleanor (Jim) PURDIE of Kitchener. Cherished grandma of Colin (Kelly), Kevin (Jodi), Scott, and Peter and great-grandma of Maya Elizabeth PURDIE. Also survived by her brothers Andrew and Matthew LYNCH, both of Scotland, sisters-in-law Vivian SCHOPF, Vera LETTAU and Pearl STEPHEN and nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth, son-in-law Jerry REILLY, sister Annie DOCHERTY and brothers-in-law Alex STEPHEN, William LETTAU, Addie SCHOPF, Harry STEPHEN and Donald McCOLEMAN. Cremation has taken place. Private family burial at a later date. Memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. TAILOR/TAYLOR, Thelma Norene (née COOK)
Thelma passed away at Grey Bruce Health Services in Meaford at the age of 84, on Saturday May 3, 2008, after a brief illness. Born in Euphrasia Township on April 9, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Harman and Clara (née HINDMAN) COOK. Thelma married Arthur Herbert TAILOR/TAYLOR on October 26, 1946. The couple enjoyed working together in the family orchards in Clarksburg for many years. Bird watching, quilting, gardening and baking apple pies were some of Thelma's many interests. Thelma will be remembered for her ever present smile and quiet manner. She was committed not only to her family but also to her church and community. She will be forever remembered as a loving mother by her daughter Bonnie and her husband Brian McCOLGAN of Meaford, son Ted TAILOR/TAYLOR and his wife Sonia of Chatham, and daughter Joyce GAUCI of Meaford. Thelma was predeceased by her beloved husband Art in February 1994 and by her daughter Linda THOMS of Craigleith in August 2004. Thelma was the cherished mother-in-law of Brenda TAILOR/TAYLOR of Clarksburg and Stewart THOMS of Craigleith. Thelma will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren: Taylor and Kelly; Michelle (Kevin), Michael (Anna), Meghan (Mike), Joey and Jessie; Erin (Blue); Dustin and Josh and by her great-granddaughters; Caitlin, Keira and Kendra. She was predeceased by her brother, Beverley COOK of Rocklyn, in September 2000 and is warmly remembered by her sister-in-law Eileen COOK of Owen Sound. Thelma will be sadly missed by her sisters-in-law Edna (late Fred) TAILOR/TAYLOR of Victoria British Columbia and formerly of Clarksburg, Edna (late Willard) JULIAN of Meaford, Elsie (late Don) WATTS of Clarksburg, and Audrey (late Howard) EAGLES, of Meaford. Her several nieces and nephews and their families will also recall their Aunt Thelma with great affection. Thelma's funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford and funeral services, officiated by Reverend Dr. Robert BUCHANAN, were conducted at Saint Paul's Presbyterian Church in Thornbury on Tuesday May 6, 2008. Son-in-law Brian McCOLGAN and son Ted TAILOR/TAYLOR offered remembrances of Thelma in tribute to her life during the service. A service of committal and interment followed at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford where Thelma was interred beside her late husband Art with pallbearers being grand_sons Kelly McCOLGAN, Michael and Joseph TAILOR/TAYLOR, Blue MELNICK, and Dustin and Josh GAUCI. May God hold you in the palm of his hand until we meet again.

MacCOLL, Beulah Sarah Jane (née FISHER)
Passed peacefully away at Fiddick's Nursing Home, Petrolia on Monday, April 14. She was the beloved wife of the late Hugh (Barney) MacCOLL (1989.) Beulah was born on February 05, 1913 on the 10th Line East (Petrolia Line) to Margaret (McLEAN) and Walter FISHER. She attended church in her early years at St. Andrew's Brooke and Enniskillen United Church and attended school on the Tenth Line. In her early twenties she moved to Regina to live with her grandfather George FISHER. Upon returning she met and married her husband Barney in 1938 and lived in Petrolia. They purchased a house on Greenfield Street in 1947 where she lived until 2003 when she moved to Fiddick's Retirement Home. Shortly after Barney's illness in the 50's she returned to high school and completed her commercial diploma, then obtaining employment at a local bank until he was able to return to work at Polymer several years later. She was an active member of many organizations including a monthly Bridge Club, the Girl Guides of Canada, the Elizabeth Council of the Universal Craftsmen Council of Engineers, the Petrolia and Enniskillen Fair Board and the Central Enniskillen Women's Institute. She has been a participating member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church for 69 years. She was an avid quilter, teaching both her daughters to quilt and producing quilts for all her grandchildren. In her 80's she learned to tole paint and spent many enjoyable hours painting various projects. She loved to knit and continued this hobby until the last month of her life. Beulah attended many exercise classes which she said kept her flexible and in good health. Her many trips with Charlie were a special pastime and she attained her goal of visiting both the east and west coasts of Canada. Beulah was the last surviving member of a family of eight. She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers Delores (Fred) EVOY, Clayton (Gwen) FISHER, Don (Lou) FISHER, Jerry FISHER (killed in action in France in World War 2), Gwendolyn FISHER, Arlie FISHER and Wayne (Donna) FISHER and Catherine FISHER. Beulah is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her daughters Lynne (Arthur) WHITE/WHYTE of Corunna and Claire (Robert) LUMLEY of Marthaville. She was special "Grandma Beulah" to her 6 grandchildren Erin (Carolyn) WHITE/WHYTE, Erika (Jaime) LOPES, Errol WHITE/WHYTE, Janice LEWIS, Jill (Mike) CURRAN and Mark (Debbie) LUMLEY. Her great-grandchildren were a source of immense enjoyment in her later years - Kaylee WHITE/WHYTE, Reis and Reina LOPES, Jordan and Chelsea LEWIS, Jessica and Justin CURRAN, and Mackenzie and Luke LUMLEY. A celebration of Beulah's life and funeral service will be held at the Needham-Jay Funeral Home, Petrolia, on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 2 o'clock, with visitation from 1 p.m. to service time. Rev. George BELL officiating. Interment will follow in Hillsdale Cemetery, Petrolia. Due to Beulah's lifelong commitment to her church, expressions of sympathy through donations to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Petrolia or the Fiddick's Nursing Home Activity Fund would be appreciated. A resident of Chatham, Ella BROOKS died on Monday, June 30, 2008, at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus, at the age of 88. Born in Harwich Township to the late Warren and Florence (MOORE) PICKERING. Beloved wife of Gordon BROOKS. Loving mother of Linda PAOLUCCI and her husband Pat of London, Shirley McCOLL and her husband Neil of Rodney, and the late Joanne MOORE. Ella will be missed by her grandchildren Shannon, Wendy, Kelly, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Julie, Jared, Jordan, Steven, Cheryl, and Michael, along with her 7 great-grandchildren. She is survived by sister Evelyn WARRINER, brother Gordon PICKERING and his wife Lena, and sister-in-law Gertrude PICKERING. Predeceased by sister Vera Galloway and brother Leonard Pickering. Ella enjoyed Old Time Square Dancing and was very proud to knit mittens for the Goodfellows every year. She was a member of Park Street United Church for many years and later St. Andrew's United. Peacefully at Trillium Villa Nursing Home on Saturday, February 23rd, 2008, Donald Anthony (Dinny) MacRAE, age 94 of Sarnia, beloved husband of the late Lois Jean (McCOLL) MacRAE (1976.) Dear father of Donald MacRAE and his wife Judy of King City, Karen CHUMKO and Bruce MacRAE and his wife Kathy all of Sarnia. Grandfather of Jennifer, Brad, Donald, Jody and Julie, great-grandfather of Kyleah, Ethan, Mathea, Tyler and Schae. Predeceased by his brothers Elmer, Omar, Robert and Jack. Mr. MacRAE was a life member of the Scottish Rite and life member of the Point Edward Ex-Serviceman's Club and Branch #62 of the Royal Canadian Legion. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #62 will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 7: 00 p.m. Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of the D.J. Robb Funeral Home (102 N. Victoria St. Sarnia, Ontario N7T 5E9) on Wednesday, February 27th at 11: 00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. TATTON, Mary Elizabeth " Betty" (née GARTHWAITE)
At the end of her long journey, on July 5, 2008, Betty peacefully passed away with her family by her side at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria. A Capricorn, she was born January 15, 1922 in Toronto, Ontario. Beloved wife of Lorne, her everlovin' husband and best friend for 63 wonderful years. Dear mother of her adoring daughter Lisa and her husband Jim VANSTONE of Victoria, and her devoted son David of Toronto. Lovingly remembered by her brother William and her grandchildren Edward, Gordon and Gregory. Betty was predeceased by her parents William and Pearl and sister Joan McCOLL. When Lorne returned from the war, he and his cherished Betty were married and raised their family in Toronto, Chatham and Burlington. When the children were grown, Betty both worked and volunteered at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. She approached her endeavors enthusiastically whether it was her work, socializing with Friends and family, bridge, cooking or tending her garden. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Betty's life was held at the Interfaith Chapel, Finnerty Gardens, University of Victoria on Friday July 11, 2008 at 3: 30 p.m. with Rev. Ormand Lavenne officiating. Interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto will take place in September 2008, and a memorial service will be arranged and announced at that time. If you wish, donations can be made to a charity of your choice or the Alzheimer's Society of Victoria or the Sunnybrook Foundation, Toronto. Harold and Phyllis are also dearly missed by many nieces and nephews, cousins, neighbours and Friends. Harold taught at Frontier College, Palmerston District High School, Waterford District High School, Burlington Central High School (Vice-President), Aldershot High School (Vice-President and President) and Alderwood Collegiate Institute (Etobicoke). He was a member of the Ontario Genealogical Society, the Orchid Society at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Mapleview Mall Walkers, Wilson Masonic Lodge in Waterford and United Empire Loyalists, Hamilton Branch.
Phyllis was the President, Wellington Square Home and School Association; President, Ladies Auxiliary, 2nd Burlington Boy Scouts; founding member of University Women's Club; member of Inaugural Board of Directors, Burlington Family Young Men's Christian Association; member of Royal Botanical Gardens Orchid Society and the United Empire Loyalists, Hamilton Branch. A Service of Remembrance will be celebrated at Smith's Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of Queen Elizabeth Way), Burlington (905-632-3333), on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 1: 30 p.m. Urn interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
