61, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2008 at Princess Margaret
Hospital surrounded by his beloved family and closest Friends.
Born in Shanghai, Eugene is survived by his parents Ting Chi
and Maria YAO; his siblings, Marina, Szeeming, Serinna and Deborah.
Eugene lived his life with zest, always with his life partner
Winnie NG by his side. Devoted father to Yaya and Ryan. Beloved
son, brother and uncle. Cherished friend, community leader, founder
of Urbane Cyclist Worker Co-op, environmental activist, proponent
of pedal power, gourmet chef of Shanghainese and Italian cuisines
and connoisseur of fine Italian wines. Eugene touched our hearts
and changed our lives, and Toronto, for the better. Visitation,
Friday, February 22, 2008, 2: 00-9:00 p.m. Cardinal Funeral Home,
366 Bathurst Street, Toronto. A private service follows. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made to Ontario College of Art and
Design, earmarked for the Eugene Yao Urbane Cyclist Bicycle Design
Award.
