"These men are all employed by Messrs.
McCONNELL and
JOLLICOEUR in their
lumbering opperations on the Upper Canada side of Lake Temiscaming. These forty nine names were forwarded to me
by Mr. McCONNELL and only reached me yesterday by mail. The names of only about half their men employed appear to
have been forwarded to me.I presume the others are in chanties on the Lower Canada side of the Lake.
McCONNELL and
JOLLICOEUR obtain their main supplies by a road cut last summer to Lake Nipissing. They were
taken from Chicago last fall and canoed up French River and stored at the East End of Nipissing, and carted
to Temiscaming in winter. Mr. McConnell took up about a dozen teams early in March from Ottawa City via the
Mattawa to Trout Lake, thence to Temiscaming by the road mentioned."
