A Special Interest Group is a group of members accredited by the Board who join together to pursue a particular genealogical interest. These interests would relate to geographical areas outside of Ontario, specific ethnic or cultural groups, or events that affected large numbers of people. A Special Interest Group does not constitute a legal entity separate and apart from The Society.

Currently, there are four Special Interest Groups (SIG)

• Irish Palatine
• Ireland
• Scottish
• British Home Child

How Do I Start a SIG?

Members of The Society who are interested in creating a SIG are invited to discuss the concept with the President at [email protected] . Proposals will be posted on the website and published in Newsleaf to assist in generating support from members.

Once the decision is made to move forward with the creation of the new SIG, a petition that consists of the following items is sent to the President of the Society:

• The signed names of at least twenty-five (25) members of The Society
• The proposed name of the SIG [based on particular genealogical interest]
• A list of the proposed Operating Committee positions and the names of members willing to hold them
• A proposed fee structure
