TONI, The Ontario Name Index, is an name-based index to Ontario records. There are currently more than 5.2 million name references in TONI.
The latest update added over 43,000 new records to TONI, including just over 20 000 from cemetery transcriptions from Durham Region Branch, more than 11,000 newspaper death notices from London & Middlesex Branch.
We also added another 7,800 from family histories in the OGS library. The family histories in our library are a priceless and unique genealogical resource. We are steadily indexing family histories. If this is something you would like to assist with from the comfort of your home, please contact us at email@example.com.
The balance of the updated records reflect indexes from Elgin, Huron and Ottawa Branches of the Society.
Essex Branch Updates
Many of our Branches have online materials available, some free, and some available only to Branch members (click HERE for a partial listing). Essex County Branch has recently added cemetery transcriptions to its Members’ only section. The St. Ann’s Section of Heavenly Rest Cemetery contains approximately 3,000 entries while the Veterans Section of the cemetery consists of a further 700 entries. These entries expand the already extensive cemetery transcription listings available to members of the Essex County Branch of OGS.
Essex Member’s Only section also includes numerous school records, including various school registers, some as early as 1897. Essex has now added more than 40 year-books from local high schools, generally from the 1950s and 1960s, to their Member’s Only section.
The Essex County Branch Members’ Only section is restricted to OGS members who are also members of Essex Branch. Essex membership is only Cdn. $12.00 a year (that’s only $1.00 per month!).
