S-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d Out Deadline for Lunch at Durham Region Branch’s “Day of Learning”
Nancy Trimble, Chair, Durham Region Branch
Originally, we stated that lunch would be included with your registration if you registered by June 8th, BUT after consultation, we have extended that deadline to midnight on Sunday, June 10th. So, hurry and get your registration request e-mail in before then!
You can still register after that date and even register at the door, but to be assured of lunch being included, please register by tomorrow, Sunday, June 10th. All e-mails timed by midnight will be eligible. Don’t miss this opportunity because the lunch provided by the United Church Women last year was great!
Durham Region Branch’s Day of Learning will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm at Faith United Church, 1778 Nash Road, Courtice. This year’s theme is: “From DNA Connections to Database Giants”
STOP PRESS! Due to a generous donation to our branch at Conference 2018, we now have a Door Prize to give away at our event. All those registered will be eligible and we are very grateful to our donor vendor for this chance to reward ONE lucky attendee.
“The Genealogy Giants’ Databases”
Are the big Genealogy Giants really that different from each other? Do I really have to subscribe to all of them? Nancy will quickly compare the four big companies with regards to database coverage, prices, pros and cons. Some ways to get around having to pay for all the companies will be discussed.
Nancy will also moderate a panel of genealogists that will field questions on the big databases and the not-so-big databases. Audience participation is encouraged, and we hope to introduce you to other sites that are not to be missed.
Nancy Trimble holds a Professional Learning Certificate in Genealogical Studies and is involved in lecturing in the Durham Region. She has researched her lines in Ontario, England and Scotland and is slowly making some headway on her Irish lines. She has been Regional Director, Vice-President and President of the Ontario Genealogical Society. Currently, Nancy is the Chair of Durham Region Branch and is a proponent of the concept of life-long learning.
Our other speakers include:
*Nick Post presenting “The Ins and Outs of FamilySearch, and What’s New”; *Sherilyn Bell about “Ancestry in a Tube: Using DNA to Pick Up the Genealogical Trail”;
*Ellen Maki talking about “Autosomal DNA: Next Steps” and a Panel Discussion.
