Writing A Query

The Ontario Ancestor’s Research Team (ORT) assists and encourages family tree researchers to find online and offline resources to further their research into their family history.  We connect our members and visitors to limited research services that are available from some of our Branches and we engage in limited research for a Branch that has no capacity for research and for geographic areas where there are no existing Branches.

We respect federal and provincial privacy legislation; therefore, we will not undertake searches for adoptees, birth parents, or living persons.

For your inquiry to be promptly dealt with, we request that you be specific as to what information you are seeking when you request research service. You may wish to refer to the article written by Alan Campbell in the November 2016 OGS blog entitled “Writing an Effective Genealogical Query” for help to format your research request.  Your inquiry will be acknowledged within 72 hours by one of our volunteers who will review your research needs and provide you with an estimate of the time to research your matter or we will refer you to a list of Ontario Professional Genealogists who conduct extensive family history research.

Please Note:

Members of the Ontario Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists offer research, consulting, publishing, lecturing, and/or teaching services. Specialties are listed with each member on the chapter’s website at http://ocapg.org/.

Their members may assist novice or experienced family researchers who are unable to undertake personal research in Ontario. Individual members should be contacted directly regarding their services, fees and availability. Please state your research needs and include a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) with a postal enquiry or contact a researcher by email.

The Ontario Chapter of APG and the Ontario Genealogical Society do not assume responsibility for agreements contracted between individuals.
