Description

– Located at 5348 Sherkston Road, on Part Lot 25, Concession 1, former Bertie Twsp., Town of Fort Erie. The land for this Mennonite cemetery was part of the farm of pioneer Samuel Sherk who in 1789 arrived in the Point Abino area with his father, Michael Sherk, and other family members from Earl Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. On May 15, 1828, Samuel sold two acres to his brother Peter Sherk and George Zavitz (minister in the Sherkston Mennonite Church) to be used as a burying ground “forever.”

This document includes known transcriptions for 273 gravestones transcribed in 1993 and reviewed again in 1998 and 2000. The graves are indexed by the numbering system used in transcribing (alphabetically and numerically), with a corresponding reference plot map.
