Description
Scugog Island Pre 1850 Settlers – by Janis Carter

Scugog Island, being an island, was fairly inaccessible, and also was divided between two different counties in its earliest settlement period.ย As a result, it was not settled as early as the surrounding areas.ย Furthermore, there is very little documentation until the 1851 census and various tax records, also in the 1848-1850 time period. This book gives a brief overview of the earliest documented settlers of Scugog Island, before that first census in 1851 and, at approximately the same time, of the consolidation of the Island into its own township and one community.
