Description

The original parcel of land for North Bay Cemetery was given to the Township of Pelee Island by Anne McCormick shortly before her death in 1897. She was the daughter of William McCormick who purchased Pelee Island from the local indigenous community in 1832 for the sum of $500. Miss Anne donated the land on the condition that the McCormick plot in the centre of cemetery be surrounded by a concrete sidewalk. The remainder was to be given as free burial ground to any resident on the island. This included Indigenous residents, several of whom, including a Chief are buried in the cemetery.

The file has 30 pages including a map of Pelee Island and a map of the cemetery.ย  Please review the Cemetery Index file before making a purchase.

The file is free to view in the Members Library for members of the Essex County Branch of Ontario Ancestors.
