Description
– Located at 65 Aqueduct St. in the City of Welland, bounded by Aqueduct Street, Elizabeth Street, and Church Street. The Japanese Martyr’s Church Cemetery was used as a burial site between the years 1863 and 1921 at which time a new cemetery (Holy Cross) was opened. Â No records were available for the original cemetery prior to 1921 as the church had burned and all of the records were lost.
This document includes known transcriptions for 127 gravestones as recorded in 1985. The handwritten notes were copied as closely as possible from the international inscriptions on the headstones. Also includes a separate list for 55 translated transcriptions and a list of known graves without markers (534 names, with dates of death).
