  • In 1834, the St. Johannes Evangelische Kirche congregation was organized with Lutherans, Evangelical Reformed and Pennsylvania Dutch within its membership. In May, 1845, under the leadership of Rev, J. Althaus, a parcel of land on the east side of the Sodom Road almost opposite the church, was purchased from Michael Kronmueller. This was to be used for a cemetery and the owner reserved burial privileges for his family. In 1846, his son (by the same name) was the first person to be buried in this cemetery. In 1928, the name of St. Johannes Evangelische Kirche was changed to St. John’s Evangelical and later in 1956, to St. John’s United.
