Description

The history of the Immaculate Conception parish of Pain Court is inseparably linked to that of the Assumption parishes of Sandwich and Saint-Pierre on the La Tranche River. The Assumption parish began around 1728. Father J. B. Marchand, while serving as parish priest of the Assumption from 1796 to 1825, had two chapels built: that of Saint-Pierre in Pain Court, which was blessed on July 8, 1802, and that of Saint-Jean Baptiste of Malden (Amherstburg) in 1803.  In 1851 Bishop Charbonnel of Toronto visited Saint-Pierre and immediately recommended the construction of a new church to serve the large population of French Canadian families now in the area. On March 1, 1852, the solemn blessing of Immaculate Conception, dedicated to Saint Joseph, took place.

The volunteers of the Franco-Ontarian Research Centre compiled the marriage and burial records for Immaculate Conception church located in Paincourt, Kent County, Ontario, Canada. The file has 219 pages.  It begins with marriages sorted alphabetically by the surname of the GROOM.  This is followed by an alpha list of the BRIDES, sorted by the BRIDE’s surname.  Her spouse is identified there to allow you to refer to the complete record under the GROOM’s surname. Following the Marriage section is the list of burials, sorted alphabetically by the surname of the deceased.
