This index gives information needed to obtain the original will of your Essex County ancestor.  It gives the year of your ancestor’s death and the file or document number of the record.

Wills before 1970 are available at the Ontario Archives.

When you have this information you can borrow the microfilm containing the original of the wills from the Archives of Ontario.   Ask at the reference desk of any Ontario Library that has microfilm readers.  There is no charge for inter-library loan and the borrowing library usually has three weeks use of the film.  The county, year of death and file number must be known before the relevant film can be borrowed.
